Don’t just take my word for it!
Te journey I made along with my family some fiſteen years ago was exciting and terrifying! I was just turning 40 with my 4 year old son and leaving a 17+ year old daughter behind! (A great heart wrenching decision to make for us as a family,) Mistake number one! We had carefully selected, through a number of visits and research into Schooling and health care, ‘which is second to none,’ that the Costa Calida in the region of Murcia, was going to be our forever home. We loved it then as we do now! Yes, it has met with all of our expectations. Te climate is fabulous, the landscape is theatrical with Mountains ranges that reach out into the mediterranean. Te pace of life is steady and consistent for a healthy lifestyle. It has it all! So what’s the issue? I missed my family and the British culture. As the years go by this becomes more and more of an issue. I wish, wish, wish wish we had kept a little place here to call home. Once you opt out of the UK in such a permanent way, it is not so easy to return for obvious financial reasons. Properties have become unaffordable for myself and hundreds of thousands of people wishing to return to the UK, either on a permanent or like myself in a part time basis. In essence we took a great leap into the unknown, like blinkerd Race horses, we omitted to consider the immediate and long term emotional costs and the effect this
would have on our whole family. despite the fact that we thought we had thought of everything and had prepared as much as we possibly could. Making the decision, for my part, to move permanently to Spain ‘lock stock and barrel.’ Mistake number two! If we had been able to discuss all these additional factors with a person who has the experience and knowledge of emigration to another country we could have avoided a great deal of unnecessary heartache.
