Students from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryntawe reach UK-wide science and engineering fi nal
A group of students from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryntawe have been selected to compete at the UK fi nals of a science and engineering competition after their exciting project caught the eye of
judges. The fi ve-strong
team of 17-19 year-old pupils from the school will now take their place in next year’s The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Competition. The team has been announced as one of the winners of the regional heats at The Big Bang Fair South Wales, with the project from the group entitled ‘A Sustainable Foul Water System for the Tidal Lagoon

As part of the project, the team designed an alternative foul water system for the Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay Powerhouse that both satisfi ed the sustainability requirements of the business and was commercially viable. Here, they will vie for top prizes including the coveted title of UK Young Engineer and GSK UK Young Scientist of the Year.
