Wales’ biggest brewer and hospitality company, S.A. Brain & Co. Ltd, is using a Welsh Government programme to recruit new talent. Individuals have had the opportunity to learn the skills they need to work in Brains kitchens across South Wales thanks to the Employability Skills Programme, which helps upskill job seekers and provide them with the training and employment opportunities they need to kick-start their career. The programme provides individuals with the confi dence and experience they need to get a job through high- quality work experience placements that provide work-based learning, employability and skills training workshops, upskilling in essential skills and dedicated support staff . Brains became involved with the scheme in early 2018, creating a ‘Kitchen Skills Academy’
and
taking on individuals to prepare them for work in catering and hospitality. Individuals, ranging from age 23-57, spent seven weeks on the placement programme backed
by the Employability Skills Programme, as part of the package Brains designed with Welsh Government and a training provider to discover the kitchen managers of the future. Participants were guaranteed a job interview at the end of the seven-week placement, and four of them now have full-time
jobs in Brains kitchens.
