Mercedes E-Class Estate named What Car? Used Car of the Year


Te Mercedes E-Class Estate has claimed victory at the What Car? Used Car of the Year Awards 2019, triumphing over a host of the UK’s leading models. Te 2017 Mercedes E-Class Estate is based on the E-Class saloon launched in 2016. It won over the What Car? judges with its luxurious and spacious interior, immense comfort and remarkable value- for-money.

Land Rover Classic team builds One-Off Defender

Nissan’s all-new infotainment system with significantly enhanced functionality is now available in the Qashqai crossover. New NissanConnect is an all-new advanced infotainment system which further enhances the relationship between driver and vehicle. The benefit for customers is seamless and intuitive integration of their smartphone with the vehicle, plus the ability to download Over The Air (OTA) map and software updates. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as standard on all grades except entry level Visia.


A one-off Land Rover Defender made a dramatic entrance at

in London, entering the famous department store through a first-floor window. Te unique Selfridges Edition Defender Works V8 will form the centrepiece of the new-look menswear department at the Oxford Street store, but not before technicians from Land Rover Classic reassemble the vehicle in full view of shoppers. To fit through the first-floor window, the specially commissioned Defender was dismantled and a team of experts rebuilt the vehicle. Te one-off vehicle is placed under a protective cover while Selfridges puts the finishing touches to its new menswear department ahead of its official opening on 29 October. Te Selfridges Edition vehicle began life as a 2016 Defender 110 Pick Up but the Land Rover Classic team have turned it into a 110 Soſt Top, complete with a branded hood in trademark Selfridges yellow. Te bodywork is finished in contrasting Bronze Green and a heritage style folding windscreen and half-height doors complete the open-air look. see it take pride of place in the famous department store.” Te Selfridges Edition features chassis and powertrain upgrades introduced on the Defender Works V8 – 70th Edition, which was announced in January to celebrate Land Rover’s 70th anniversary year. Featuring a 405PS V8 that produces 515Nm of torque, an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission plus uprated brakes and suspension, the limited-run Works V8 derivatives are the fastest and most powerful Defender models ever produced. When the finished vehicle is unveiled at the end of October, the period-style seats will feature chocolate leather upholstery with ivory cross-stitching while the addition of a Jaguar Land Rover Classic Infotainment System will combine period charm with cutting- edge audio technology, providing satellite navigation, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity in a classically styled head unit.


Users are encouraged to download an all- new app – called Door to Door Navigation – to their smartphone. This unlocks enhanced functionality, such as planning a route before they leave their home or office on their phone. Once complete, they can send the destination directly to the car to start route guidance the moment they’re behind the wheel.


New NissanConnect also features TomTom Premium Traffic, which provides highly accurate real-time traffic data to optimise travel time.


Access to New NissanConnect is via a seven-inch touch-screen head unit integrated centrally into the dashboard. It’s the same size as before, though now has fewer hard keys and a new multi-touch capability. The system’s new features include:


- Single line search: this new functionality in the navigation system speeds up and simplifies the process of finding a location - Personalisation: the homescreen is fully customisable via ‘drag and drop’ functionality so users can set up short cuts for regular tasks - Voice recognition: accessed through the revised steering wheel buttons, making phone calls, having messages read out and controlling music can all be carried out by voice command


- Apple Carplay and Android Auto: standard on Acenta, N-Connecta, Tekna and Tekna+ grades of the Nissan Qashqai


Year categories were divided into price points to better reflect the variety of cars available on the used car market. Te final decision on winners was taken by a panel of experts, based on the main criteria of quality, reliability, value and the availability of desirable versions.

- Door to Door Navigation app: Available from the Apple Store or Google Play, the customer downloads this to their smartphone to access the full functionality of New NissanConnect.


- Plan a trip before leaving / send destination to car: In conjunction with the Door to Door Navigation app, user can identify their destination on their smartphone when at home or in the office then send it to their Qashqai. Route guidance will begin as soon as they start the vehicle - OTA software and map updates: customers can download these at their convenience via wifi or their smartphone’s data package The instrument cluster display – located between the two dials directly in front of the driver – has also been redesigned to show additional information when receiving phone calls or SMS text messages. It also displays turn-by-turn route guidance.
