Merthyr care workers celebrate after making 400 Dementia Friends

CHARLIE is a six-year-old Terrier cross. He is a sensitive chap and will need time to get to know new owners, so multiple visits to the centre will be required to build up a relationship with him. He could live with another dog already established in the home, however, it would need to be a calm dog. He can live with children 14 years and over and will need owners who are around for most of the day as he is not used to being left previously. Once he knows you, Charlie is very aff ectionate and playful, he loves to play with his toys and having a paddle in the river, making him the ideal fun companion. For more information on Charlie, please visit the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Bridgend, CF31 4NG; or give us call on 01656 725219. You can also visit our website at www.dogstrust.org.uk.

Team members at a Merthyr Tydfi l care home are celebrating after they made 400 people Dementia Friends in May. Dementia Champions at Greenhill Manor Care Home, Mitchell Minney and Karen Beech ran numerous Dementia

Friends sessions for team members,

members of the local community and local schools throughout May as part of care provider, Hallmark Care Homes company-wide commitment to making 1000 people more knowledgeable about dementia. This was instigated as part of Dementia Action Week, which ran from the 21st – 27th May. Greenhill Manor, which provides in nursing, dementia and young physically disabled care, took part in the initiative which was well received by local schools and businesses to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s

disease and help transform the way the nation thinks about dementia. The short and interactive sessions, which were taught in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society material, explore what it’s like to live with dementia, how you can make someone who lives with dementia live a fulfi lled life and the small things you can do to make a diff erence. If you are interested in fi nding out more about dementia, please visit the news section of Hallmark Care Homes website to keep updated with their latest Dementia Friends sessions. You can also visit the Hallmark Care Homes website and contact your nearest Hallmark Care Home to register your interest in coming along to an upcoming session. Visit www.hallmarkcarehomes.co.uk
