A response to the new Winter Economic Plan
CCRMagazine: new deal with Lantern
CCRMagazine and Lantern have agreed a new partnership which will see the debt purchaser’s branding prominently supporting the publication for the coming year. Speaking after
the announcement,
Stephen Kiely, editor of CCRMagazine, said: “We have a long and successful history of working with the team at Lantern, so I am delighted to be continuing this through our new agreement. “At this unique and challenging time for
Last month, we welcomed the publication of the chancellor's Winter Economy Plan. With the resurgence of the coronavirus
and the tightening of restrictions, it was clear that some form of continued employment support would be needed – but that the economy would struggle to support the gargantuan costs of continuing the furlough scheme. The new Job Support Scheme is designed
to support viable jobs rather than keeping people on the payroll whose jobs have effectively disappeared, and will do so in a far more cost-effective fashion. Restricting access among large firms to
those whose revenues have fallen is both appropriate and a better way of targeting support than blunter, sector- specific measures. We also welcome the various measures to
ensure that the recovery is not harmed by forcing businesses to immediately repay the substantial debts they have accrued. However, in the next stage of recovery we
urge the chancellor to go further, not just by ruling out damaging tax rises on business but embracing pro-growth, pro-enterprise stimulus measures, such as those suggested by the ourselves and the chancellor, Sajid Javid,

everyone, it is more essential than ever for senior industry professionals to have access to all the knowledge and analysis that they need. On a daily basis, professionals are being asked to make important decisions that will significantly impact upon customers in the real-world economy, so professionals need to have the right information to continue to make these best decisions. “This partnership will play an important part in continuing to allow this information
to be shared, and I would like to highlight just one aspect of this: our profile this month of Samantha Barnard, who has recently joined Lantern as Director of Client Partnerships and Acquisitions.” Meanwhile, Denise Crossley, Chief
Executive Officer of Lantern, added: “We appreciate the importance of sharing knowledge and information at this time, as we all strive to do the best job we can for our customers. So I look forward to building on this new partnership and sharing our own insights throughout the year.”
Motorhome director is disqualified
The director of a Scottish-based motorhomes company disqualified for eight years after guaranteeing return prices to customers for their vehicles which could not be met. St Andrews Motorhomes Limited was
incorporated in June 1993 to buy and sell motorhomes in Central Scotland. Christine Helen Galloway (65), from Cupar, Fife, was a director of the company since incorporation. The company, however, began to struggle
and ceased trading in July 2018, before entering into compulsory liquidation. St Andrews Motorhomes’ insolvency brought the company to the attention of the Insolvency Service, who conducted further enquiries into the company’s activities. Between May 2017 and July 2018 St

motorhomes and caravans, and offering an agreed return when the vehicles were sold to a third party. Investigators established, however, that in
at least 18 of the 32 agreements, Christine Galloway sold the vehicles to a third party for less than the agreed return price in the brokerage agreement. A total of 21 of the agreements were
entered into between January 2018 and May 2018. In this period Christine Galloway knew or ought to have known that the company was insolvent and was unable to pay the agreed return to customers.
