Huge NAECI deal
Unite scooped up a whopping 17.4 per cent minimum pay rise over two years for thousands of engineering construction members in January.
The deal, which includes a range of other benefits, was secured after Unite balloted 3,000 members who work under the National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry (NAECI).
Workers will receive an 11.3 per cent from January 2024 and at least 5.5 per cent from January 2025, a
compound increase of at least 17.4 per cent. The deal is a substantial increase on the initial offer for 2024 and 2025, which was just 8.5 per cent and 3.5 per cent respectively.
And in more good news improvements to sickness and accident benefit, the London overnight supplement and the introduction of a £1 an hour London rate enhancement as well as pension, productivity and apprenticeship reviews are also included in the deal.
“This excellent result is a prime example of the benefits to be gained by being part of Unite. Unite will continue to build on our industrial strength in the construction sector so we can continue winning for
workers,” said Unite national officer Jason Poulter.
“This outstanding deal was achieved because our members knew the NAECI employers could not ignore their demands if they acted
collectively,” Unite general secretary Sharon Graham added.
Great result at Drax
It was great news for over 500 engineering and construction workers at Drax power station in November when Unite secured an enhanced bonus pay package.
Around 200 workers received an immediate incentive bonus of £2.37 an hour to April 2024 for repair and maintenance duties.
A total of 500 workers will receive the same amount as an hourly bonus when the next Drax shutdown commences in April. All major industrial facilities, such as

power plants, perform shutdowns for maintenance and performance reasons.
The workers operate under the National Agreement for the Engineering Construction Industry (NAECI). The bonus agreement was negotiated locally with Altrad and TEI without the need for industrial action.
“This deal would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Unite’s reps and members at Drax. Unite is determined to build on this deal and to continue to increase its industrial strength at the power station,” commented Unite regional officer Chris Weldon.
