Like so many of you in the industry, the Park World team has been deeply saddened by the news of Paul Ruben’s passing. I only knew Paul for two and half years, but he had the effect that I felt like I had known him a lifetime. He was our North American editor for over 30 years and all of Park Worlds staff, past and present, found him an absolute joy to work with. He will be greatly missed. Together with his industry colleagues, we pay tribute to him on pages 22&23. A consummate professional to the end, Paul still managed to send me what would be his final article for Park World, published on pages 44 and 45. In it, he speaks to Paul Nelson, owner of Waldameer Park, Erie. Turn to pages 44 – 45 to find out more. Kraftwerk Living Technologies and its latest range of media-based attractions are the subject of this month’s Cover Story. Turn to pages 26 and 28 to find out more about Sun Dark and Night at the Manor, the first two attractions in its appropriately named, ‘Transforming Theaters’ range. Following on from this nicely is this month’s Special Feature, which continues the discussion about Media Based Attractions (pp30-40). Take a look to find out what’s new from Navitar, Brogent, Simworx, Sally Dark Rides, SimEx- Iwerks Entertainment and Simtec Systems. In another Park Update on pages 44 and 45, Marcus Gaines, owner of Ride and Park Media pays a visit to Tornado Springs at Paulton’s Park; while in this month’s Park Profile, Bryony Andrews, editor of GlobalAmusements&
Play.com, speaks to operations manager Royston Badham to find out more about Folly Farm’s history and its plans (pp49-51). We also have two further guest articles, one from Playsafe Systems’ Iain Lunt, examining current and future trends in payment in family entertainment centres and other location-based entertainment venues (p46) and Mobaro’s director of parks and attractions, David Bromilow who explains why safety, maintenance and operations should be brought together in one system (p48). Finally, you will find all of the latest industry news on pages 6 – 19, together with coverage of the upcoming Park World Excellence Awards on pages 20 and 21. Don’t forget the new 30 September deadline for entries and nominations, this could be your year to shine!
