Park Update www.parkworld-online.com Season 2019 The Sommerland area is filled with green oases,

trampolines, bounty cushions, large playgrounds and other activity-based rides. In Afrikaland the guest can sail through the jungle and

look at all the exotic animals or spin around in the two themed carrousel rides. Mexicoland takes guests deep into a Mayan universe,

where they can jump onto the roller coaster Juvelen and ride through the jungle or fly high above the jungle in Solguden. In Westernland the guests are stepping into the wild west.

Here they can take a wild boat ride in Rio Grande Rafting passing roaring waterfalls and the Indian Village or go for a swing on the Wild West Carousel. Westernland has 10 different attractions. In Piratland it is all about finding treasures and getting

whirl around the seas for example in Piraten, Denmarks biggest roller coaster or Skatteøen, Northern Europe’s biggest Water Coaster. Piratland has seven different attractions. Vikingeland is where the Vikings set sails and sets off for

expedition. Henrik explains that guests can, for example, “climb aboard Drageskibet that will swing them fully 20 metres up in the air or they can test their strength climbing up the two towers overlooking most of the area” Vikingeland has five different attractions. Bondegårdsland is very popular amongst families with smaller children. The area has 10 attractions and guests can look forward to flying along in the roller coaster in a flurry of chicken feathers, spin in the rotating cowshed and jump- around on the crazy frogs. The theme of the area is farm animals. In Wild Asia guests can fasten their seatbelts and pass

through the Asian landscape in the children’s coaster Jungle Rally or feel the rush of adrenaline in DrageKongen. “Tigeren, the Gyro Swing we are building for the 2019 season will also be found in this area,’ explains Henrik. Wild Asia has five different attractions.

The biggest coasters in Denmark According to Henrik, Piraten is, with a top speed of 90 km/h and a height of 32 metres, Denmark’s biggest roller coaster; while Juvelen is the country’s only double launch coaster and with a length of 1 kilometer, its longest too, with a top speed of 85 km/h. “DrageKongen is Europe’s fastest and longest family suspended coaster,” says Henrik, “it is 30 metres high and has a top speed of 85 km/h;” while Skatteøen “is the biggest water coaster in Northern Europe.”

Commenting on the most popular rides at the park, Henrik says, “This really depends a lot on who you ask. Bondegårdsland has 10 very popular rides for families with smaller children. Roller coaster rides like Juvelen, DrageKongen and Piraten are the most popular rides among the slightly older guests while water rides like the rapid river ride ‘Rio Grande Rafting’ and the Water Coaster ‘Skatteøen’ are very popular among both young and old.” Djurs Sommerland has a “long and very good history”

working together with many of the same manufactures, so it is often those that Henrik and the team talk to when looking for new ideas. “Work on new attractions most often starts with our design company and we then start talking to the manufacturers. In close co-operation we try to find the best solution for the park,” he says.

From land to water Djurs Sommerland’s outdoor Aqua Park was established back in 1985 and this too has undergone a number of changes in the years since. “Now the Aqua Park features many different slides and rides for children of all ages and adults,” says Henrik, adding: “The Aqua Park is a good complement to all the other rides in the park and works very well as an alternative to a trip to the beach.” An award winning park, Djurs Sommerland has achieved

a lot over the years, so, what has been its biggest challenge? “Exceeding the constant development of our guests’ expectations is a very motivating and big challenge,” says Henrik, adding that its biggest achievement “must be that we have a great team in Djurs Sommerland which is well prepared for the challenges of the future.”
