CONTENTS Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today, and welcome back to school! In the issue this month, we focus on mental health and wellbeing, a topic of vital importance these days more than ever. In our first feature we hear from Chris Wright, Head of Health & Wellbeing at the Youth Sport Trust, who explains why he believes health and wellbeing should be at the heart of the nation’s school system. In our second, John Wicks, CEO at drug and alcohol testing lab, Cansford Laboratories, looks at the challenges facing schools when it comes to preventing substance abuse and offers some pointers for tackling this increasingly common problem, while in our third and final feature on the topic we catch up with Julie Harmieson, Director of Education and National Strategy at Trauma Informed Schools UK (TISUK), who discusses a relational approach to behaviour to support children and young people’s mental health in school. To round out the features, we finish with an informative piece on innovative teaching practice from Phil Herd, Associate Headteacher and Digital Lead at Transform Trust, who explains how a focus on teaching and not just technology for technology’s sake has allowed excellence to flourish across the Trust. Elsewhere, as always, we have news, views and our line-up of regular contributors, and a lovely View from the classroom piece from Cradle Hill Primary School in Seaford. Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, as well as by phone or email.

Enjoy the issue!
