CONTENTS Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. With the coronavirus pandemic showing no signs of abating, and with the prospects of more stringent measures looming, I hope you are all managing to maintain at least some semblance of normality inside your schools – routine is such an important part of children’s lives, and the framework which the school day gives is, as we realise when it’s taken away, a fundamental part of early life. In the magazine this month, we have

three features to share with you, covering SEND and CPD. Our feature focus this month is on SEND, with particular focus on the impact of the pandemic on those with special educational needs. In the first of our features on the subject, we hear from Martha Currie, Clinical Director of Mable Therapy, who examines the challenges schools are facing providing support for children with special educational needs, at a time when outside agencies are unable to enter school premises, while in the second, Liz Davidson, Chief Marketing Officer at QRoutes, discusses the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on school transport and particularly on the provision for children with SEND. Last but not least, in our third feature Joanne Tiplady, Curriculum and Research Lead for TEAL Trust and the Wolds Associate Research School and teacher at South Hunsley School in East Yorkshire, looks at the key ingredients that go together to create CPD that makes a real difference to schools. Elsewhere in the magazine, and

continuing the SEND theme, we have regulars Joanne Gladders and Kate Sarginson shining their monthly spotlight on SEND; our collaboration with Edge Hill University continues with a lovely piece from Zoe Greenhalgh, Associate Tutor (Early Years) at the university; and regular contributor Kirsty Bertenshaw offers her thoughts on CPD. Finally, we have all the great comment, news and opinion you’ve come to expect. Remember, we love to hear from you,

you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email.

Enjoy the issue!
