decisions. As part of this, we focus on delivering the best experience possible, and we see school trips and extra-curricular activities as essential tools in providing an exceptional education.
What school trips do you organise? To fulfil our vision of widening horizons, school trips enable our students to learn in the best way possible. During a school trip each pupil can see, hear, and experience things to a higher level. We believe in multi-sensory learning as essential to our student’s school life.
I
n our ever popular View from the classroom this month we are delighted to hear from Alexandra Ladbury, Head Teacher of Park Lane Primary School and Nursery, who explains why school trips and extra-curricular activities play such an important role in the life of the school.
Tell us about your school
Park Lane Primary School and Nursery is in Nuneaton and part of the Griffin Schools Trust. The school is built on three interconnected pillars: “High Achievement, Wide Horizons and Proud Traditions”.
With 461 children between the ages of two and twelve, the children are at the heart of all
During a school trip, the children could learn more about the subjects related to the trip, such as Geography, Science, History and even Languages, to dip into the culture. Another benefit is supporting constant cultural growth and enrichment, which can result in broader social development.
Learning outside the classroom is an essential part of the learning process as it helps the child understand through experience, not just words in a book. They prompt a certain curiosity within the pupil and encourage further learning and engagement, even when back in the classroom. With every trip we organise and every location we take into consideration, we ask ourselves what can our children learn and how could they, in this area, develop new skills? This is an essential set of questions to consider when planning school trips.

Moreover, we will continue getting to know the animals with a visit to the local farm, Ash End House Children’s Farm, which will have significant input as the children can get closer to the animals and stimulate their young minds.
We also plan on having a trip to the childhood home of Shakespeare’s mother. As Shakespeare is still a major foundation stone for today’s theatre scene and literature, we believe that this trip can enhance the curiosity about drama and spark a passion for writing after knowing more about where the author is coming from and his success. Another exciting trip for the children will be to the Whitemoor Lakes, where they will be able to conquer fears and discover new sporting passions. Here they will have the opportunity to try kayaking, sailing, canoeing, climbing, zip wire and abseiling. It doesn’t get better than this!
What extracurricular activities do you offer? At Park Lane, as in all GST schools, we are set to deliver an outstanding programme of extracurricular activities to our pupils, with a range of over 30 options per week. We are always on the lookout for something new that can spark curiosity and help the development of our pupils.
Covering arts, sports, and everything in between, children are encouraged to try their
