ON THE COVER Global Policing Limited

no education or focus on this matter. It is merely expected that ten-year-olds suddenly grasp the law and understand how their behaviour impacts others. While teaching children subjects like English and Mathematics is undoubtedly important, preparing them for life is equally vital. By providing insights into the potential risks and consequences of engaging in criminal activities, we aim to deter them from such behaviour and promote the development of safer communities.” Global Policing’s flagship

lobal Policing Limited was established in 2015 by Shane Williams, who made the decision to relinquish his Chief Inspector position in Greater Manchester Police to concentrate on fostering a comprehensive understanding of law and crime among young children. His ultimate objective was to empower them to make informed choices and contribute positively to society..

At the age of eight, Shane bore witness to a harrowing incident of domestic-related attempted murder. Following a night out, his grandfather brutally stabbed his grandmother 18 times in the chest. Numerous police cars and a substantial police presence arrived at the scene, and Shane was placed in the back of a police car outside the residence, being inadvertently forgotten for a period of four hours. Distraught and yearning for assistance,

Shane expressed his anguish by attempting to exit the car, resulting in him screaming in distress. Regrettably, instead of offering comfort, the officer present responded with profanity and instructed him to be silent. Shane was eventually driven to a temporary foster carer, who did not speak English and was placed in an unfamiliar bedroom, unsure of his grandmother’s fate. Fortunately, she survived and went on to live a long and fulfilling life. This traumatic incident served as the catalyst for Shane’s resolve to join the police force and devote himself to helping young individuals comprehend the law, crime, and the responsibilities of being a good citizen. Throughout his career, which witnessed rapid promotion, Shane’s commitment to assisting children persisted. It culminated in his role as the head of uniformed and crime training, where he had the opportunity to shape and influence the behaviour of new recruits, emphasising their treatment of individuals while carrying out their duties.

One evening, while sitting in his office, Shane questioned whether he was truly making the difference he aspired to achieve in transforming the lives of young people for the better.

Regrettably, the answer was no. Recognising that he possessed the potential to make a more substantial and positive impact, Shane made the decision to establish his own company with a clear mission: to educate children about law and crime, equipping them with the knowledge and awareness of their rights and responsibilities within society. He embarked on the establishment of Global Policing, investing relentless effort in the early stages to gather support for his vision and the work he had undertaken.

Shane Williams explains, “My primary objective has always been to empower children to make better choices themselves. Although the age of criminal responsibility in this country is ten, there is currently

initiative, Project Chameleon, spans ten weeks and consists of two-hour sessions held weekly for entire classes. Each week, young participants delve into a specific crime issue and, through a restorative approach, develop an understanding of the law, the mistakes people make, and how these criminal acts impact victims, offenders, families, and the community at large. Further information about Project Chameleon can be found at: https://globalpolicing.co.uk/project-chameleon/ Shane Williams proudly affirms, “Through Project Chameleon, my team at Global Policing has effectively transformed the lives of numerous young individuals for the better. Here are just a couple of examples. Following our session on domestic abuse awareness, a young girl took the initiative to address her parents. Armed with the booklet provided during the project, she implored them to cease their arguments. As a result, her father sought support from Global Policing, revealing his status as a perpetrator of domestic abuse. We were able to provide the assistance he needed. In another instance, a child approached their Head Teacher after participating in a project at their school, clutching the Global Policing booklet. The child explained that, because of the project, they recognised the importance of speaking up. They disclosed being sexually abused by an uncle, leading to the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of the perpetrator. The Head Teacher invited me to the school after the court case, overcome with emotion, and embraced me warmly. Together, we witnessed a markedly transformed young individual, exhibiting greater happiness and engaging with their friends.”

Beyond delivering Project Chameleon, Global Policing actively supports schools in addressing various issues, extending far beyond crime prevention. Their efforts encompass knife crime, water safety, internet safety, and mentoring. Furthermore, they have assumed the role of data protection officers for over 400 schools and offer a comprehensive training package that encompasses all essential training courses required by educational institutions. As their primary focus revolves around assisting young people, they reinvest their profits into children’s education, thereby reducing costs and enabling more schools to benefit from their impactful work.
