Bett 2022 postponed to 23-25 March due to omicron B

ett 2022 has been postponed to March 2022. In a statement, the organisers said: "Following the rapid escalation of omicron cases across the UK and around the world, we have taken the decision to postpone Bett 2022, alongside Ahead by Bett, Learnit and our Hosted Leaders Programme. The new dates for these events are 23-25 March 2022, and will continue to take place at the ExCeL London.

"Our commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of our community necessitated the shift and we considered feedback from many of our exhibitors, sponsors, attendees and speakers, as well as the impact of changing travel restrictions globally. Our global partners Microsoft, BESA and the UK’s Department for Education are supportive of the

change and the new show dates.

"Holding Bett in-person at the end of March presents an important opportunity for the education and technology community to come together to learn, trade and network and to look positively to the future of teaching and learning. "All visitor registration, exhibitor stand, sponsorship and hosted meetings will automatically be transferred to the new dates. We will be in touch in the New Year to explain the next steps and to let you know more about the rescheduled event.

"In the meantime, please do make sure that if you have booked hotel rooms and flights you contact your providers to cancel your booking or move forward in line with the new show dates.

Create Music launches as joint music education service for the South East

C

reate Music, a joint collaboration bringing together the educational services of Brighton & Hove Music & Arts (BHMA) and East Sussex Music (ESM) will offer music tuition to more people across the South East region. As one of the largest providers of music education in the UK, Create Music reaches over 9,600 children and young people across 262 participating schools and music centres from Hove to Hastings. The service is managed by Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival, as part of their remit to remove barriers to cultural experiences across age, ability and communities. The service has recently expanded its offer to include online courses for adults from beginners to advanced level. Both services have a long history of teaching music and have an impressive list of alumni who have forged successful careers, including singer songwriter and Brit Award winner Celeste, who grew up in Brighton and Grammy nominated composer John Powell, known for his work on films such as Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon.

Create Music Director, Peter Chivers said: “Both BHMA and ESM have achieved brilliant things for many years and this new partnership will enable us to share skills and resources, but most importantly will increase our offer across more communities, from school pupils to older learners. The benefits of singing, learning an instrument and playing together is immeasurable and we’ve seen how it can improve people’s lives for the better.”

Research from the University of Sussex School of Psychology found that music education can have a profoundly positive impact on young people’s wellbeing, mental health and social skills, particularly those who are marginalised, at risk, or in need of support. It concluded that making music, writing lyrics and developing personal music tastes allows young people to explore and express their emotions and discover their identity, empowering individuals and giving them a community in which they can thrive. Andrew Comben, Chief Executive, Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival commented: “Whether

someone is picking up an instrument for the first time as a hobby, or studying at a professional level, Create Music aims to inspire people to enjoy music across all abilities. As access to the arts becomes increasingly difficult for a lot of communities, offering affordable tuition in familiar locations or online is essential to keep young people engaged so we can nurture the next generation of artists and musicians.” Create Music services are in participating schools, music centres and online. Tuition fees aim to be affordable, with funding available for families who may need support.
