EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF MAKERS TO DESIGN, DISCOVER & MAKE

THE MIDLANDS MAKER CHALLENGE IS FREE TO JOIN FOR MIDLANDS SCHOOLS

The Climate (in)Action challenge is a fantastic STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) powered opportunity that can run alongside the curriculum, or in school clubs

INSPIRING YOUNG MAKERS

The challenge focuses on empowering young people to see themselves as makers, to recognise their strengths and to work together to boost skills.

COLLABORATING WITH PEOPLE

The challenge uses a person-centred approach, encouraging empathy, collaboration and teamwork to develop ideas that offer meaningful solutions with potential for positive change.

LEARNING FROM THE PAST

Each challenge launches with a day at the Museum of Making in Derby - a site that tells the story of 300 years of making and innovation in the Midlands - perfect for sparking creativity.

EXPLORING CLIMATE CHANGE

The challenge has been developed in response to young people’s climate concerns. A brief allows them to connect their passions and skills to respond meaningfully and to actively take part in changemaking for their future.

INDUSTRY MENTORING SUPPORT

Young people will have access to the support of a mentoring team as part of the challenge, giving them a chance to learn from industry specialists from a STEAM background.

The challenge is aimed at teams of young people aged 13 - 21. Each challenge runs throughout the 2022/23 academic year and includes days at the Museum of Making and digital resources. Find out more at:
