ADVERTORIAL Stay Active Together at
Homewith Travel to Tokyo T
eam GB and ParalympicsGB believe remaining active matters, now more than ever, for both
physical and mental wellbeing. While we might not be heading to the Tokyo Games this year, Travel to Tokyo is supporting millions of 5 to 11- year-olds and their families from across the UK in getting active together. The programme is easy and accessible for families to take part in – from April 15th they can just search for their school team using their school postcode and start logging activity – that’s it! By logging activity, families can meet weekly goals, enjoy fun and flexible activity ideas and win fantastic prizes. Teachers can register to join the Get Set Club and access exclusive Team GB and ParalympicsGB educational resources including all our fun physical activities to share with their pupils and get the whole school involved. Whether in school or at home, this programme will ensure that all pupils can stay connected by getting active, beating their goals together and sharing their success.
Benefits of taking part in Travel to Tokyo: As we adapt to find new ways of getting active, we believe the core benefits of Travel to Tokyo are more relevant than ever before: • Staying Healthy - Every activity, no matter how small, can be logged online for Travel to Tokyo. By helping young people make more active choices, Travel to Tokyo can ensure families stay active and build healthy habits.
• Reduced Anxiety and Stress - Everyone copes with anxiety and stress in their own way. By taking the time to have a walk outside, dance
around the kitchen or trying out one of our fun ten-minute activities, Tokyo Tens, getting moving is a proven way to reduce stress and boost your mood.
• Increases a Sense of Togetherness - Travel to Tokyo helps to reduce feelings of isolation by allowing pupils to work alongside their classmates virtually and celebrate their progress online. By remaining connected to their classmates, Travel to Tokyo creates a sense of community and togetherness that will help support each pupil’s physical and mental health.
Staying Active In order to best support pupils and their families in staying active at home, we’ve created a free Home Activity Pack that can be downloaded at
getset.co.uk/travel-tokyo. The Home Activity pack is filled with Tokyo Tens, which are fun, quick and easy ten-minute activities that encourage young people to get active at home. From Karuta, which gets pupils practising adverbs while getting active, to Handy Hitter, that tests kids coordination using everyday objects, every Tokyo Ten is designed to be accessible for all young people and to include their siblings and parents to get the whole family moving. Families can download these free resources and track their schools progress at
getset.co.uk/travel- tokyo. Every activity counts, no matter how small and by logging activity pupils can continue to win great prizes for themselves and their schools.
Parent Engagement Toolkit We know teachers are making a big adjustment to children not being in school, in order to support teachers to familiarise pupils and their families with Travel to Tokyo, we've created our
April 2020 E-learning Supplement
own Parent Engagement Toolkit. This quick and easy toolkit will introduce parents to the challenge with an introductory email, social media and text-based templates and explain how pupils can stay connected with their school and classmates by logging activity on the Travel to Tokyo website.
