...to the January issue of ABC&D magazine... We kick-off the New Year with a tour of Barefoot Architects’ transformation of a run-down, problem pub in Bristol’s Barton Hill into a vibrant community youth club on page 04. Barefoot worked in partnership with Wellspring Settlement and a cohort of young people to design and deliver a functional, but characterful, space to accommodate everything from sewing, table football and video games to making YouTube shorts and having water fi ghts. Our second project feature on page 10 discusses plans to redevelop a portion of Glasgow’s quayside to meet the growing need for high quality student accommodation and co-living residential units in the local area. This month’s Hot Topic (page 16) takes a look at the importance of collaboration and why bespoke masonry solutions have become an essential tool for architects and housebuilders; GTC explores what the Future Homes Standard means for specifying low carbon energy on page 22; Etheridge Windows explains why triple glazing is becoming the smart standard for sustainable building on page 28; and on page 36, Stuart Reynolds looks at how to navigate accessible bathroom specifi cation pain points. Jackie Maginnis introduces the Modular & Portable Building Association’s new Roadmap to Net Zero on page 40; Knauf Insulation discusses exposure zones and designing for moisture resistance on page 44; and on page 46, Jim Perry takes a look at the use of jointing compounds in domestic water systems.
