Competent manufacturers do not test
“typical” doors. They test the most within their range. These edge case tests expose the limits of the system and reveal how components interact under stress. Only through systematic and frame types, hardware combinations, glazing formats, gap tolerances and capability of a doorset be understood. One or two isolated tests provide almost no insight into the inherent safety margin built into the product, nor do they reveal where the weakest points lie. Understanding failure: Behaviour in test vs behaviour in service By interrogating a wide range of test outcomes, informed manufacturers can begin to predict not only how a standard furnace curve, but how it is likely to perform over its lifetime. Fire door performance is a balance of interdependent factors. A seemingly seal, a hardware tolerance problem, a chain of events that leads to failure in service. Without broad testing experience, these relationships remain invisible.

Those who adapt now will be best placed to deliver compliant, resilient and technically defensible solutions in the new regulatory landscape. Clearer evidence leads to clearer in the strongest position to drive that change.
