educational standards and operational needs,” explains Ian Bakewell, Head of Design, Property Services for Capita Entrust.
“The result was a state-of-the-art science facility that was delivered on time and within budget, ready for the autumn term. The building was handed over with zero defects and has since been used daily by more than 200 high school students, performing exceptionally well under real-world conditions.
“This project stands as a testament to the power of partnership. From the vision of the funding providers, and the commitment of the academy, to the precision of Entrust’s project management and technical advice and the expertise of Algeco UK’s design and contracting teams; every stakeholder played a vital role. Together, we have created a facility that not only meets today’s educational needs, but will inspire future generations of scientists for many years to come.”
Commitment to organisation and quality
“Algeco UK’s commitment to organisation and quality made our job easier. Their team provided well-prepared work areas, clear instructions and the necessary access at the right times, allowing us to deliver our finishes to the highest standard without delays,” explains Michael Nutt, Director of Michael Nutt Decorators Ltd, who were brought in to decorate M Block post-construction.
“The mutual respect between both teams created a positive working environment. When challenges arose, they were addressed quickly
through open dialogue and problem-solving. This ensured the project stayed on track and met the agreed deadlines.”
‘A dream come true’
The end result is impressive, a standalone two- storey science block, comprising 12 classrooms, each equipped with an interactive whiteboard and a specialist prep room. M Block also boasts an extensive glass area within each lab that has been specifically designed to make sure as much natural light as possible streams into the classrooms.
“The new science block is incredible and a much-needed improvement. To have the whole department together under one roof is a dream come true,” says Hazel Boyce, Headteacher of Saint Benedict Catholic Voluntary Academy.
“The benefit to our pupils is going to be immense, and their delight at the new block is a joy to behold! The innovative design of the building, coupled with the wide expanse of glass in all of the labs, makes it a beautiful environment in which to learn.”
Dr Mala Mistry, the Academy’s Director of Learning (Science), concludes: “At last - the science department is together in our new science block.
“The bespoke laboratories; each fitted with an interactive whiteboard and specialist prep rooms, will help make sure our science teachers are able to deliver the already robust curriculum in new and innovative ways.”
