SMART BUILDINGS

Multisensor lighting technology at Battersea

A smart lighting control system from DELMATIC has been used throughout the redeveloped Battersea Power Station and has won a BREEAM Innovation Credit for lighting.

The holistic IP, DALI-2, DMX

and BACnet system delivers sky-tracking biodynamic control throughout the headquarter workspaces, energy optimised lighting schemes across the retail and leisure areas, site-wide basements, residential spaces, landscape, roof-gardens and façades, with dynamic colour-control of the iconic chimneys. Data rich sensors form the

heart of the smart building eco-system, constantly monitoring, assessing, and adjusting lighting and connected services, while the UK’s largest

application of tuneable white biodynamic control with real-time sky tracking enhances occupant comfort, wellness and aesthetics. Multi-discipline sensors

monitor presence, daylight, temperature and humidity and share granular intel with the BMS via BACnet and MQTT so that both lighting and HVAC speed/ temperature are optimised according to occupancy and environmental conditions. Smart sky-tracking biodynamic scenarios adjust lighting intensity and colour temperature to reflect the

brightness of the sky, while daylight-linking algorithms dim perimeter lighting in bright weather and simultaneously increase the intensity and colour temperature of interior lighting to extend the effect of daylight deep into the space. Colour temperatures are configured to match the use and function of each space while scene-set panels and smart devices empower occupants to adjust and fine-tune lighting to meet their individual needs. The company’s latest Macro

Climate sensor is said to deliver the ultimate in multisensor technology, extending beyond traditional lighting management occupancy and daylight harvesting to include full-scope environment climate sensing. The transformative sensor replaces multiple sensors by combining presence, absence and daylight-linking with temperature, humidity and air-quality sensing, smart data sharing and BLE beaconing for asset tracking and internal navigation. ▄ www.delmatic.com

Lighting with smart environmental

sensing Adding environmental sensing and insights, HELVAR Senses is an evolutionary step for Helvar intelligent lighting solutions. As lighting sensors are typically the densest sensor network in a building, incorporating environmental senses such as light, CO2, VOCs, temperature, humidity, sound and air pressure becomes a very practical way to collect data about the overall conditions in the space. This data combined with occupancy data and refined through analytics gives an improved understanding of how to optimise the spaces. Enabling smart buildings to

become more energy efficient, Helvar Senses addresses the issue of wasted energy consumption during the operational phase of the

building. It’s estimated that buildings typically consume two to five times more energy than initially predicted at the design stage, due to the actual usage of spaces deviating too much from the original design, resulting in unnecessary costs for building. Helvar Senses equips building owners and operators with the tools to significantly improve operational efficiency, measure performance, reduce energy consumption, and thereby lessen emissions. By combining climate, air

quality, acoustics and space usage data, Helvar Senses helps to facilitate easy communication between building systems, allowing systems to share experiences and data, and evolve beyond their initial design. ▄ www.helvar.com
