SOLAR PV SYSTEMS EXPLAINED Solar photovoltaic power systems, commonly referred to as solar PV systems, is a renewable energy technology that harnesses the power of the sun to produce electricity. These systems are made up of solar panels, inverters, and other components that work together to convert sunlight into usable energy. The basic principle of solar PV technology is the
photovoltaic effect, which refers to the ability of certain materials, such as silicon, to generate an electric current when exposed to sunlight. Solar PV panels consist of many small cells made from these materials that are connected together to form a

larger panel. When sunlight hits the cells, electrons are knocked loose, creating a flow of electricity. Solar PV systems are highly versatile and
can be installed in a variety of locations, from residential rooftops to large-scale solar farms. They are also highly scalable, allowing for systems to be customised to fit the specific energy needs of a given location. Additionally, solar PV systems are environmentally friendly, producing no emissions or pollution during operation, and requiring minimal maintenance. One of the key components of a solar PV system is the inverter, which converts the direct current (DC) electricity generated by the panels into alternating current (AC) electricity that can be used by most household and commercial appliances. The inverter also allows excess electricity generated by the panels to be fed back into the electrical grid, providing a source of renewable energy for the wider community. Another important aspect of solar PV systems
is their energy storage capabilities. Batteries can be used to store excess energy generated during daylight hours for use during periods of low sunlight or high energy demand. This not only provides a reliable source of renewable energy but can also help reduce peak energy demand, making the overall electrical grid more stable and efficient. The cost of solar PV systems has decreased
significantly in recent years, making them an increasingly attractive option for both residential and commercial customers. In addition, many countries offer incentives and subsidies for the installation of solar PV systems, further reducing the financial barriers to entry. While solar PV technology has many benefits, there are also some limitations. For example, the
output of solar panels is dependent on the amount of sunlight they receive, meaning that they are less effective in areas with low levels of sunlight. Additionally, the production and disposal of solar panels can have environmental impacts, although these are generally outweighed by the long-term benefits of using renewable energy.
EFFECTIVE ELECTRICITY GENERATION Overall, solar photovoltaic power systems are a highly effective and environmentally friendly way to generate electricity from renewable sources. As the cost of solar PV technology continues to decrease, we can expect to see more widespread adoption of this technology as a key part of our energy mix in the years to come. Given this information, it is worth considering
whether the heightened investment in Solar PV technology, the acquisitions made by investment firms, and the focus on ESG in governmental policies, are in line with larger trends in the renewable energy sector and what implications they may hold for the future. Conversely, what impact do institutional investors such as BlackRock have on propelling the growth of renewable energy infrastructure, and how could this shape government policies and industry regulations?
