orgren has collaborated with Agri-tech start-up Singrow, an innovative genome
and precision agriculture business, to drive operational efficiencies – including significant energy savings – at its strawberry crop vertical farm facility in Singapore. Committed to innovative and sustainable crop productions, Singrow’s unique genome and precision agriculture platform cultivates, grows and distributes produce under controlled conditions by leveraging a deep understanding of plant genomes to improve crop nutrition and yield with varieties that are disease and climate resilient. Its strawberries can be grown at scale in tropical countries, breaking seasonal and temperature barriers and unlocking huge potential for growers while also reducing costs for consumers. Norgren’s digital multimedia valve technology,
intelligent temperature, and light intensity sensors, as well as data acquisition solutions, provide visualisation and connected system control management so Singrow’s critical processes – such as energy use and water consumption – are continually monitored, controlled, and resource deployment optimised within the growing chambers. The control system ensures sustainable and
optimised production for Singrow’s strawberry crops. It uses Buschjost solenoid valves to automate irrigation, providing precise water and nutrient delivery at specific times. Additionally, the system automates light delivery and ventilation control to support crop growth. Real-time data
acquisition through sensors allows informed decision-making based on measurements such as heat levels, light intensity, and nutrient levels in the soil. The constant data feedback loop further optimises crop yield and cost efficiency. Singrow is also able to access and manage Norgren’s automated control process remotely via a mobile device, while Norgren’s Edge computing capability provides operators with essential data for day-to-day crop management and calculating the cost-to-yield ratio, enhancing
production and commercial outcomes. As a result of implementing control technology,
including visualisation tools and system connectivity to oversee irrigation, lighting and ventilation functions, Norgren has delivered a 40% reduction in energy costs for Singrow.

Groupe Atlantic welcomes Lord Callanan to state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hull
To mark its £60m investment programme to further develop innovative low carbon technologies, Global heating industry leader, Groupe Atlantic UK, Republic of Ireland and North America, was delighted to welcome Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, to its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hull on Friday 4th August.
The visit by Lord Callanan was in recognition of the vital role Groupe Atlantic play in the heating industry’s green transition and was a welcomed opportunity for the company to showcase its huge investment in UK manufacturing, innovation, research and development, and training opportunities.
On arrival at the Hull site, Lord Callanan took the time to meet apprentices and watch technicians working on the latest heat pump production lines before officially opening the new National Training and Technician Centre, assisted by Shaun Edwards, CEO of Groupe Atlantic UK, Republic of Ireland and North America.

GSR Ventiltechnik GmbH & Co. KG has developed a new valve series for the hydrogen sector. The direct-pressure controlled valves are characterized by a long service life, which is achieved by the unique design of the stem seal. It enables 35% more switching cycles than comparable competitive products.
The generation of electricity from wind and solar power plants will be massively expanded in the coming years. However, since these forms of electricity generation are subject to fluctuations due to the time of day and weather conditions, and the electricity generated cannot be stored easily, new concepts are still needed here. The production of green hydrogen from the surplus electricity of renewable energy plants could be the solution. Hydrogen can be temporarily stored, transported and used in gas grids, or converted back into electricity in gas turbines. This green hydrogen is produced by splitting water (H2O) into hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) using electrolysers and renewable electricity. The new externally controlled valves from GSR control the processes surrounding electrolysis. A version for use in both the hydrogen and oxygen processes will soon be available. The body materials have been specially qualified for use with H2 or O2. The hydrogen version has reliable, tested sealing elements, while these are even BAM-certified for the oxygen version.
