Navien and Passiv UK partner to bring smarter heat pump control to UK homeowners

Gaia Energy Strengthens Leadership Team with Two Key Appointments

Heat pump manufacturer Navien and heating

technology company Passiv UK have partnered to offer an integrated heat pump and smart control offering to homeowners and tenants across the UK. Customers can now install the Passiv Smart Thermostat with Navien’s PEM750 air source heat pump. Designed to optimise

heat pump operation, the Passiv Smart Thermostat intelligently adjusts flow temperatures and automatically takes advantage of smart tariffs and excess solar generation to reduce heating costs. Its smart heating feature, ecoHeat, has been independently verified by the Energy Saving Trust to improve heat pump efficiency by 17% and can reduce heating bills by up to 30%.

The Passiv Smart Thermostat works with Navien heat pumps out-of-the-box, requiring no additional hardware. Installers can now avoid the complexity and challenges of setting static weather compensation curves, while end customers avoid the headache of trying to optimise heating and hot water schedules to time-of-use tariffs and solar generation. Ian Rose, Managing Director at Passiv UK, said: “Heat pumps shouldn’t require homeowners to become energy experts. The technology should do the hard work in the background – keeping the home comfortable, responding to electricity prices and making the most of renewable energy when it is available. Our partnership with Navien brings that intelligence together from the outset, making smart heat pump ownership much simpler.” Navien is headquartered in South Korea and is the world’s fourth-largest gas boiler

Merseyside retrofit and renewable energy specialist Gaia Energy has welcomed two senior hires to its leadership team to support the company’s rapid growth. Denis Hennigan joins as Strategic Development Director and Marc Goudie takes up the role of Head of Decarbonisation. Hennigan, previously Director of Business Development at Ecogee, brings extensive experience in the energy and decarbonisation sector to the team. In his new role, he will focus on driving business growth, building strategic partnerships and expanding Gaia Energy’s market presence. Since launching in 2020, Gaia Energy (formerly Gray North West) has reported consistent

year-on-year growth and is on track to reach a £5 million turnover this year. Goudie also joins Gaia Energy from Ecogee, bringing a wealth of expertise in compliance and decarbonisation. He will lead the operational delivery of energy efficiency projects under key schemes such as ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation), GBIS

manufacturer. Greg Banham, Commercial Director at Navien UK, said: “By working with Passiv, we can bring together Navien’s heat pump technology with intelligent controls that can automatically take advantage of cheap electricity available from time-of-use tariffs, or free electricity available from rooftop solar generation, to help customers minimise their heating bills.”

(Great British Insulation Scheme), SHDF Wave 3 (Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund) and Local Authority Warm Homes programmes.

Installers will have free access to remote heat pump monitoring and diagnostics through the Passiv Portal, while the system also gives homeowners the ability to control how and when their heat pump uses electricity.

End customers will also be eligible to sign-up to Passiv’s Greener Grid Payment scheme, which rewards households for allowing their heat pump to intelligently flex its operation during periods when electricity demand and supply on grid networks is constrained. Passiv delivers flexibility services without compromising household comfort, helping accelerate the roll-out of renewable generation and adoption of low-carbon heating and transport in the UK. The Navien and Passiv integrated solution is available through Ultimate Renewables Supplies, UKPS and select merchants. For a limited time, to celebrate the launch of the partnership, Installers receive a £100 discount on the Navien PEM750 and Passiv Smart Thermostat when they purchase the kit bundle through participating merchants. .

Speaking on the appointments, Liam Gray, Founder and Managing Director of Gaia Energy, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Denis and Marc to the team. Denis brings a proven track record in driving scalable growth, while Marc’s expertise in compliance and decarbonisation makes him a key hire for our operations. Their combined experience and leadership will be instrumental as we continue to expand our services and deliver on our growth ambitions.”

Hennigan added: “This is an exciting time to join Gaia Energy. The company is scaling up to meet growing demand for energy efficient homes and businesses, and I look forward to contributing to its strategic growth as we support the transition to a low- carbon future.”

Gaia Energy specialises in residential and commercial retrofit projects that enhance energy performance, reduce environmental impact and advance the UK’s journey to net zero. Partnering with local authorities, housing providers, private landlords and homeowners, Gaia Energy delivers home upgrades under major government- backed schemes including ECO4, GBIS, SHDF Wave 3 and Local Authority Warm Homes programmes. The company also provides renewable energy solutions, such as solar PV and battery storage, for commercial clients.

Headquartered in carbon-neutral offices at Knowsley Business Park, Gaia Energy powers its head office with solar energy and prioritises local suppliers and sustainable business practices. The company also supports the local community, sponsoring Prescot Cables U8s football team and backing initiatives like Sefton Pantry, which assists vulnerable families across Merseyside.
