DECARBONISING FOR HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS/SOCIAL HOUSING
S LEADING THE SOLAR CHARGE - ED TO KEEP IT MOVING
plan and procure at scale; pairing available grant funding with other finance models – including private investment – to stretch limited budgets further; and prioritising the homes that are easiest and cheapest to retrofit first, to build momentum and evidence before tackling harder stock like high-rise blocks. Funding is the crux of it. Two of the routes
councils have relied on most are closing at exactly the wrong moment: the Warm Homes
investment is deployed effectively, we could well see more council regions leapfrogging the private market within a year. But relying on public funding cycles alone will always produce stop-start progress. Public funding must remain the foundation, but it needs matching with private capital that can help councils deploy at a scale current budgets simply can't support alone. That capital is not hard to find. Private investors have long favoured solar and other renewables,
“Solar gives tenants a source of electricity that isn’t exposed to the swings of the wholesale market, at a time when volatile prices have been one of the biggest drives of fuel poverty”
Social Housing Fund is no longer accepting applications, and ECO4 Flex is nearing the end of its available resource. It is moving in the right direction, though. If the upcoming tranche of Warm Homes Fund
drawn by the maturity of the technology and the certainty of the returns – nearly $1 trillion was invested in solar globally over the last two years alone. The money is there. What’s missing is the policy architecture to let
it flow into social housing at pace and at scale. Wales and Scotland have shown what’s possible
when councils commit. The task now is making sure every region – and every tenant, regardless of who owns their roof – gets to share in what the energy transition actually delivers.

Baxi expands commercial low-carbon heating offer with new high output Auriga HP+ air source heat pump series
Baxi has strengthened its commercial low-carbon heating portfolio with the launch of new higher-output Auriga HP+ reversible ASHPs, designed to support heating, cooling and domestic hot water generation from a single platform.
Baxi’s expanded Auriga HP+ range is available in two versions. The Auriga HP+ high-output model provides high performance across the full 50kW to 170kW capacity range, making it perfect for applications where high
standards of comfort and control are required. The Auriga HP+ ES (55-170 kW outputs) adds EC inverter axial fans that deliver high airflow at reduced speeds, enhancing performance and reducing sound levels by 8 dB(A). This makes it particularly well suited to noise-sensitive environments where acoustic performance is a key consideration. Both models provide reliable, energy-efficient comfort management for a wide range of commercial applications from new build to retrofit.

A key benefit of the new Baxi Auriga HP+ high output heat pumps is that they are highly configurable with a wide choice of factory-fitted options that can support different design requirements and site conditions. This enables consultants, contractors and building operators to define a solution that is built around the needs of the building, rather than adapting the building to the limitations of the equipment. At the heart of the range is a focus on energy saving and lower environmental impact. Designed to deliver year-round comfort and system resilience, the Auriga HP+ models use R290 propane, a 100% natural refrigerant with very low global warming potential of just 3. The ErP SCOP compliant heat pumps deliver hot water at temperatures up to 70°C while maintaining high performance and excellent energy efficiency. They are designed to operate in heating mode from outdoor air temperatures as low as -20°C in winter and up to +42°C in summer.
Shane Suter, Commercial Business Director at Baxi, said: “With the addition of these higher-output Auriga HP+ heat pumps, our expanded portfolio gives commercial building professionals a practical, flexible route to lower-carbon heating and cooling. “Highly configurable and reversible, our new Auriga HP+ models provide the solution- led options our customers across the UK and Ireland need to accelerate the move to a more sustainable future. From education and healthcare estates to offices, hotels and energy centres, we look forward to supporting our customers with our full-system low- carbon heating and cooling solutions, backed with our signature end-to-end support services.”
