Power Integrations Releases Ground-Breaking 1250-Volt GaN Switcher IC
Power Integrations (NASDAQ: POWI), the leader in high-voltage integrated circuits for energy-efficient power conversion, today released the world’s highest-voltage, single-switch gallium-nitride (GaN) power supply IC, featuring a 1250-volt PowiGaN™ switch. InnoSwitch™3-EP 1250 V ICs are the newest members of Power Integrations’ InnoSwitch family of off-line CV/CC QR flyback switcher ICs, which feature synchronous rectification, FluxLink™ safety-isolated
feedback and an array of switch options: 725 V silicon, 1700 V silicon carbide, and PowiGaN in 750 V, 900 V and now 1250 V varieties. The switching losses for Power Integrations’ proprietary 1250 V PowiGaN technology are less than a third of that seen in equivalent silicon devices at the same voltage. This results in power conversion efficiency as high as 93 percent – enabling highly compact flyback power supplies that can deliver up to 85 W without a heatsink.

Miniature high voltage reed relay from Pickering now rated up to 150°C Pickering Electronics, a renowned company for its remarkable advancements in reed relay miniaturization and superior performance over the past 50 years, today launched a new high temperature high voltage single-in-line reed relay that can operate at up to 125°C. The new Series 104HT relay belongs to a family of miniature high voltage reed relays and is available in the SIL package on a 6.35mm (0.25in) pitch, with a stand- off voltage capability of up to 4kV. “High temperature can significantly affect the performance of reed relays, and many devices are only able to
operate at up to 85°C. By designing these devices with increased magnetic drive and using specialist potting materials to sustain insulation resistance, Pickering can now offer reed relays that perform at elevated temperatures, and which can be stored at up to 150ºC.” Said Kevin Mallett, Technical Specialist at Pickering Electronics.
