Warehousing, handling & storage
Ct60 XP covers a range of a few centimetres up to ten metres. scanning in buildings to monitor stock rotation can now be completely carried out by the forklift drivers. Previously, this task required the support of ‘non-motorised’ colleagues. each scan saves the time spent on additional steps and strenuous stretching or bending to get to the bar codes of articles stacked lower down or higher up. thanks to the innovative scan engine, the
Ct60 XP is suitable not only for stock rotation, but also for the driver on the last mile. “We were therefore able to find one single device for all areas, which greatly simplifies management and maintenance across our warehouses,” stellmacher emphasises, who also upgraded the telematics software on the devices in the procurement process. “Ct60 XP mobile computers have been
designed with warehouse personnel in mind. We were able to make the scanning process more efficient and being trained on one device that can be utilised in multiple areas always helps,” Mollik adds.
tislog, a logistics software specifically developed for mobile devices. tislog ensures complete goods surveillance over the entire supply chain at any time, as well as convenient and secure data exchange between the driver and your head office. With its live configurator, the software has the advantage of being easily adaptable to individual requirements. tis delivered the 1,500 configured devices to 24 emons spedition locations within a space of only four months.
Significantly reduced workload “Capturing bar codes from different distances with one device helps us save time and money every time we scan,” says gunnar stellmacher, head of information technology at emons spedition. the scanning range of the compact
Parallel oPeration enabled switching the operating system was also required in upgrading the mobile telematics: the predecessor devices (also from honeywell) were controlled with Windows Mobile, whereas the Ct60 XP works with android. honeywell guarantees updates for android 12 at minimum, which ensures a long-term investment. tis also developed the tislog Mobile enterprise, software that runs hardware independent on all modern mobile devices with any android version with htMl5 browser. as part of the four-month switchover, emons spedition was able to keep both software generations operating in parallel. the tislog MdM (Mobile device
Management), newly introduced at emons spedition, also assisted in the process. it enables an efficient and centralised management of all mobile telematics devices and it is an integral part of the tislog software
family. it is easy to use and enables the quick and centrally controlled transfer of software updates and data backups while also keeping an inventory of all mobile devices. other functions include the registering and setting up of new devices or the retiring devices and the associated deleting of corporate data.
driverS adjuSt routeS another software innovation is being able to calculate etas (estimated time of arrival), which play an increasingly important role in the general cargo business. Calculating etas presupposes that “the routes are driven precisely as saved in dispatch operations," explains warehouse manager Ju
̈rgen gra ̈f. in
daily practice, however, drivers frequently change the sequence of the route as they have better knowledge of local areas. “the tislog app enables drivers to make and save these changes in the telematics system in a few quick steps,” gra
̈f says. based on the actual route
data, tislog calculates realistic etas that are sent directly to the euro-Mistral transport management system used at emons spedition. e-commerce is booming and this has changed
how warehouses are doing business. When having to accommodate an unexpected large number of orders, it is imperative to save as much time as possible both adjusting the routes, quick scanning and smart mobile device management. “i trust that the successful partnership between emons spedition and honeywell will empower other companies to choose leading solutions to meet their operational requirements,” Mollik concludes. renewing the telematics software and the
mobile computers for emons spedition’s warehouse and driving personnel has raised productivity further and improved the quality in general cargo transport. scanning processes that save time and effort, standardising the devices selected and generating realistic etas have all contributed to more efficient processes.
