Welcome to the June issue of Factory and Handling Solutions Magazine.


J


une has arrived, and so has the world cup, kick starting the heatwave in the UK. For many of you, your attention has likely moved from factory lines to goal lines this Summer, but let us hope the fatigue that is hitting the industry right now, doesn’t translate to our boys over in the states.


Speaking of, as the thermometer reaches the 30’s, the teams across our factories and warehouses are beginning to suffer. The heat across the UK has reduced worker productivity, increased fatigue and raised safety risks. Equipment such as forklifts, motors and control systems have been overheating, causing downtime. Across the board, companies are investing in cooling systems and ventilation to maintain effi ciency, safety and operational performance. But not all can. The question is, what do we do when effi ciency drops and temperatures continue to climb.


It is essential that companies remember to implement new measures to keep the workers safe and happy. This could include providing hydration stations, adjusting shift schedules to cooler hours and increasing rest breaks. Investing in automation and heat-resistant equipment can also help maintain productivity, improve safety and reduce operational disruptions.


Aside from this, Key government developments affecting manufacturing, logistics and material handling include new packaging regulations under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), continued progress toward net-zero emissions targets, support for automation and AI adoption, investment in transport infrastructure and initiatives to address labour shortages through skills and apprenticeship programmes. These policies are infl uencing operational costs, sustainability strategies and future business investment decisions. Be sure to be aware of each this quarter.
