SHOW PREVIEW
WAREHOUSING, HANDLING & STORAGE
COMPREHENSIVE AND FREE - SOUTHERN MANUFACTURING & ELECTRONICS 2023 A
t Southern Manufacturing & Electronics, to be held at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre in early February, mechanical engineering and electronics will converge again to create one of the most important shows in the UK calendar. It is certainly the longest running annual engineering show, as it has been staged continuously since 1998, which means that 2023 marks its 25th anniversary. With its diversity of supplier companies, the show rises above any particular sector of engineering, attracting big-name manufacturers and SMEs alike. As well as giving the event its unique character, it makes visiting an effective way to address multiple sourcing requirements under one roof in a time-efficient manner.
Many regular participants are already signed up for 2023, which is on course to be a sell-out again. Hundreds of firms will present every aspect of engineering, from machine tools and mechanical engineering through electromechanical, electrical and electronic equipment and components to business software, workshop essentials and a wide range of subcontract services.
The exhibition is not just a venue for industry and engineering in the UK and Ireland, but also a major showcase for companies from continental Europe and further afield. It has grown continuously from a small, regional show to one of international significance, now attracting visitors and exhibitors from all over the world. The exhibition in 2020, which ran just before the pandemic, hosted nearly 800 companies and attracted 9,256 visitors. A large proportion of exhibitors have supported the show since the very beginning and the percentage of returning firms is high. Many regular participants are already booked for 2023. Having under one roof the best of mechanical engineering and electronics operating at the forefront of technology and innovating across a multitude of sectors gives the event a unique and special character.
Although it is split roughly 50:50 between mechanical and electronic engineering, the diversity does not prevent the event from being a cohesive whole. There are no barriers between the areas, allowing visitors to roam unhindered between the different engineering disciplines. People frequently say this is one of the show’s main attractions, as it leads to their discovering companies and technologies that they may otherwise miss. Technology Trails guide visitors around the event, grouping together firms with expertise in similar areas.
There will be much of interest to see. Workplace

Ecotiles are also available as an electrostatic discharge solution to protect electrical and electronic products and personnel. Alongside the exhibition, over the three days there will be an extensive technical seminar programme. It will give visitors and exhibitors alike valuable learning opportunities, with a particular focus on the technical, managerial and environmental issues facing manufacturers today. There will be two programmes, one covering mechanical engineering and the other electrical and electronic engineering.
Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2023 opens from 7th to 9th February and will co-locate again with AutoAero, a specialist theme within the exhibition devoted to aerospace and automotive engineering. There is a regular, free bus service between Farnborough’s Main and North Camp railway stations and the show. Admission and parking are also free of charge.
