TEST & MEASUREMENT ROHDE & SCHWARTZ
How to choose the right test and measurement equipment – Rohde &
The popular Navigating Test & Measurement educational seminar from Rohde & Schwartz returns to Ireland on November 14.
T
he one-day event will include practical insights into test and measurement instruments with a focus on signal
generators, spectrum and signal analysers, vector network analysers, and oscilloscopes most often used in RF and microwave applications. Pitched to cover all levels of experience,
the ‘Navigating T&M Instruments’ seminar will feature presentations by a number of test and measurement experts from Rohde & Schwarz. Among the application areas to be discussed will be digital communications and power electronics, with speakers outlining the versatility of the latest instruments. Attendees will also learn how to get the most out of their existing instruments and achieve accurate and repeatable measurements every time.
Each session will dive into a different
topic, with the morning commencing with a presentation titled ‘Looking after RF connectors’, by product manager and application engineer, Abbey Berry. This will include a review of RF

coaxial connectors, identifying key electrical and mechanical aspects, with a focus on standards- based precision connectors, and how to handle, use and care for these important devices. Nick Le Bas, product manager and application engineer, will continue with ‘Oscilloscope Fundamentals’, an introduction to time domain measurements, typical applications and important considerations when using oscilloscopes. Engin Kodal, product manager and application engineer, will present ‘Analogue and Vector Signal Generation’, diving into signal generator architectures, identifying the differences between analogue and vector sources, and touching on typical application areas. After lunch, the topic ‘Spectrum & Signal
Analysis’ will be presented by Engin Kodal, product management lead and application development in Ireland. This will look at how to understand the architecture of a spectrum analyser, the considerations required when making
measurements, how it differs from a signal analyser and what type of applications require these instruments. Completing the day is an in-depth two-hour
‘Vector Network Analysis’ presentation which will cover S-Parameter basics, the formatting of complex data, typical sources of measurement errors and the most effective calibration techniques. Jamie Lunn, Vector Network Analyser product manager, will provide insight into the measurement capabilities of a Vector Network Analyser (VNA), its hardware architecture, minimising errors through calibration, and achieving accurate repeatable measurements. The ‘Navigating T&M Instruments’ seminar
will be held on November 14 in Naas, County Kildare. For more information and to register, visit:
