ATS: the heating, sensing and controlling suite of tomorrow
Charge Ahead with Lithium-Ion
Lithium-ion batteries are gaining traction. These power sources are now available on more lift truck product classes and capacities than ever before, capable of delivering the long- lasting, high performance that intensive applications require. And while traditional ICE forklifts may still be the best fit for some jobs, more applications than ever are suitable candidates for electrification, which could help operations overcome common productivity challenges. Industrial manufacturing operations could charge ahead with lithium-ion powered equipment. Lithium-ion powered forklifts, like the Hyster® J2.5-3.0XNL,
may offer some tough industry applications benefits over internal combustion engine (ICE) and lead-acid battery powered models. With an integrated lithium-ion battery, the Hyster J2.5-
3.0XNL series lift trucks deliver on easy access to the spacious operator compartment. Greater headroom, more space for the operator to move their feet, and a choice of seat options all help to maximise operator comfort. This, in turn, can help support productivity. These Hyster forklifts, which can lift up to 3 tonnes, also have a reduced weight. This leads to improved acceleration and reduced energy consumption. A repositioned centre of gravity in the design also enhances drive quality and handling, especially when cornering. .

Solutions from Ruland Beam couplings for robotics applications
Ruland beam couplings are ideal for surgical, warehouse, and industrial robotics due to their increased torque and torsional stiffness and ability to accommodate all forms of misalignment. Ruland manufactures four-beam couplings for encoders and six-beam couplings for light-duty power transmission, such as connecting a stepper or servo motor to a lead screw. This allows robotic designers to design a standard beam coupling into most systems. Ruland machines beam couplings from a single piece of aluminium or stainless steel for a zero-backlash design and maintenance-free service life. Multiple sets of spiral cuts enable the couplings to handle all forms of misalignment – angular, parallel, axial motion, and complex – through frequent starts and stops. The multiple-beam design also allows for higher torque and torsional stiffness. Ruland manufactures beam couplings in 7075 aluminium for low inertia and 303 stainless steel for increased torque capacity. The beam couplings are offered with a clamp or set screw hub attachment with inch, metric, and inch-to-metric combinations ranging from 3 mm to 20 mm.

Cutting-Edge NiroSan® Stainless Steel Piping System by SANHA® Chosen for Innovative “Union” Building Project
In Manchester, the UK’s second biggest city, a remarkable building project is taking shape. The visionary “Union” building is planned by Renaker, a prominent development and construction enterprise in the North West of England. For drinking water, SANHA’s state-of-the-art NiroSan® stainless steel piping system has been selected.
The Union project, designed to accommodate a bustling cohort of young urbanites, is poised to deliver a remarkable 1,676 beds across a diverse range of accommodation types, including studios, duos, trios, and quad apartments. The development is strategically divided into two towers, with Tower One projected to reach completion by Spring 2024, followed by the anticipated unveiling of Tower Two in Summer 2025.

The SolutionsPT Xchange Event Returns to Ireland
Following the success of the 2022 edition, SolutionsPT has announced the return of Xchange for 2023. The two-day conference and expo will be held at Fota Island Resort in Ireland on November the 6th and 7th. The event invites business leaders, industrial operators, engineers and system integrators to participate in a unique two-day programme of keynote addresses, hands-on learning opportunities, interactive workshops, and the exploration of new products from the SolutionsPT portfolio, including the very latest from AVEVA. Presenting the premier gathering for the Irish industry to connect, eXchange ideas, eXpand their knowledge, and eXplore cutting-edge technology in the company of industry experts. SolutionsPT Xchange is committed to supporting the digitally advanced landscape by offering specialised sessions dedicated to enhancing OT systems within the realm of high-tech manufacturing. Sue Roche, General Manager at SolutionsPT, and keynote speaker said, “After the success of last year’s Xchange conference, we are really excited about this year’s event, which promises to be bigger and better. Regardless of where attendees are in their digital transformation journey or their familiarity with AVEVA products, there will be valuable content for everyone, as we address the conference theme of Information Liberation, to use data to drive productivity, efficiency and resilience. The session topics are designed to facilitate networking and knowledge exchange among like-minded peers while learning from industry experts.”

In the past, thermal systems always had trade-offs that often made the “ideal” system out of reach. Whether budgetary concerns limit the number of temperature sensors, tight space requirements restrict the number of zones or the technology hampers how precise the heating systems are, these systems are often curated with compromise. Watlow’s adaptive thermal systems (ATS) are designed to provide companies with the tools to build the heating systems they need, without compromise. Watlow’s multi-loop control uses a multiplex wiring scheme that enables
as many as ten times the number of zones per wire when combined with high temperature coefficient resistance (TCR) materials. Increasing zone density allows for unparalleled sensing and control without creating budgetary issues. Additionally, the company developed a standardised harness for the ATS system,
which reduces the complexity of installations. ATS’ true power comes from the fact that each system component is beneficial
on its own, but together, they can transform a heating process from end to end. Whether designing a system from scratch or redesigning one, ATS brings something new to the table. Many thermal system design projects reinvent the wheel at each stage of the process. ATS’s modular “off-the-
shelf” approach to many components not only lowers cost, but also reduces the number of design iterations needed before implementation. However, it is essential to remember that ATS is still customised to the exact needs of each application. Due
to that, it represents the best of both worlds: a system that can deliver the accurate temperature control needed for modern manufacturing while avoiding compromises related to cost, space, sensor density and heating control accuracy that other systems face. .
