wireless products have transformed industrial facilities around the world. As many technologies of the past decade have accelerated and improved information at people’s fingertips, industrial wireless has given manufacturers the digital technology
improve operational performance.
By collaborating with customers on early installations, Emerson claims to have helped introduce the world’s first industrial wireless automation standard in 2007. Since then, the company advises it has surpassed 10 billion hours of wireless operations across more than 32,000 networks. While initial adoption focused on harsh, remote and difficult to reach environments, wireless has expanded customers’ automation ecosystems from core functions to new applications such as acoustic monitoring, corrosion detection and power monitoring. New plant construction is leveraging wireless technology fgy or other enterprise-wide applications, such as equipment health monitoring and energy management, with upwards of 20 percent wireless infrastructure.
The Emerson wireless portfolio of gateways and devices supports the company’s Plantweb digital ecosystem that harnesses Industrial IoT to expand digital intelligence to the entire manufacturing enterprise, while providing an architecture for either on- or off-premise monitoring. Providing the communications network for Industrial IoT, wireless is also helping customers collaborate with its experts through remote monitoring and cloud-based services.
Emerson wireless technologies, based on the internationally recognised WirelessHART standard approved by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 2010, are widely
implemented in refineries, oil fields, offshore platforms, chemical plants and other industrial facilities around the world. With them, manufacturing personnel obtain plant information on- demand to achieve operational certainty, including greater reliability, worker and plant safety, reduced emissions and lower risk of environmental impacts.

Emerson has also recently announced its new dual-mode wireless gateway which enables a flexible wireless plant both WirelessHART and ISA100 nications standards.

Strict international rules for the manufacture and packaging of
gy to access essential data to make better decisions and
pharmaceutical products require that the correct environment is maintained within the bottle following capping. To this end, Regulation USP 671 provides a guide to the torque range to be used for screw type containers with varying closure diameters. By ensuring that bottle caps are successfully applied to the bottles within the required torque tolerances, the integrity of the product can be maintained.
TorqSense, which ismade by Sensor Technology, is wireless in that it does not need to physically contact the bottle caps or shaft of the torque hea d it ismonitoring. Instead sensing is achieved through a radio frequency link. Attached to the surface of the transducer shaft are two Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices, when torque is applied to the shaft the SAWs react to the applied strain and change their output. The SAWdevices are interrogated wirlessly using an RF couple, which passes the SAWdata to and fromthe electronics inside th e body of the transducer.
“All you have to do is set up a
TorqSense transducer in the capping machine and turn it on.” explains Mark Inghamof Sensor Technology. “The SAWfrequencies reflected are distorted in proportion to the level of torque.” If a torque value outside the
acceptable range is encountered, an alarmwill trigger the cappingmachine to identify unacceptable product for immediate rej
ejection.

CONTACTLESS RFID SAFETY SWITCH
Creating a safe and efficient working environment is of paramount importance to every business owner and plant manager all across the globe. Installing the new XCSR contactless
RFiD safety switch from Telemecanique Sensors instantly provides industrial companies with the highest level of safety-certified switch protection, allowing employers to effectively seal off areas in the workzone that are dangerous. At the same time, the design of the new XCSR safety switch essentially safeguards that company’s employees against any tampering with that protection system. Finally, these features are provided by the XCSR with a bare minimum of installation effort. A single safety solution that provides multiple benefits. This new safety switch is TüV
certified with a Cat4/PLe – SIL3 rating. This essentially means that when you install the switch, your dangerous machine area is sealed off by a product with the highest rated safety level. It sends a message to employees that their safety is of utmost importance. This device also enhances safety

because it is virtually tamper-proof. The ready-to-use transponder and reader are factory-paired and sold together with a unique, high-level coding which is virtually impossible to bypass or disrupt. Once this highly effective safety system is in place, it’s functionality can’t be altered. It also comes with an adjustable
transponder sensing face, and allows numerous mounting configurations with only one product reference. The new XCSR contactless RFiD
safety switch from Telemecanique Sensors offers three different connection types to fit virtually any type of industrial environment. All three connection types are configured with unique codes and provide a PLe/Cat4 – SIL3 level of protection.
