ELEMENT INVESTS IN ELECTRICAL SAFETY TESTING IN WIMBORNE E
lement Materials Technology has invested in new electrical safety testing capabilities at its
UKAS-accredited laboratory in Wimborne, UK. The investment in Wimborne, which
complements existing scope in Hull and Hitchin, significantly expands Element’s existing UK electrical safety testing capabilities and creates a larger geographical footprint. It brings a broader range of services under one roof, reducing time and costs for customers also seeking electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and environmental testing on their products. The laboratory’s capabilities will cover IEC
62368-1:2018 / EN IEC 62368-1:2020/A11:2020; and IEC 62368-3:2017 / EN IEC 62368-3:2020 wireless product qualification testing for a broad range of product types, including tablets, routers, printers, and audio-visual equipment. Element Wimborne will also test to IEC 61010
standards for scientific laboratory equipment, which ensures safety compliance and provides a route to achieving a CE mark or UKCA certification. Matt Hopkinson, EVP at Element, said: “This
investment gives customers based in the south of the UK quicker access to an Element laboratory for their electrical safety testing requirements. Bringing these capabilities to the Wimborne facility in Dorset reduces transport costs and streamlines the test program. “All of our customers seeking IEC 62368 and IEC
61010 testing will also require EMC testing and because we can now offer this at one location, we can provide global compliance services with a single project management team. This reduces both costs and lead times, providing a faster route to market for customers’ products.” Element’s Wimborne laboratory is a European centre of excellence for EMC and environmental
testing for customers in connected technologies, aerospace, military, transportation, energy and industrial manufacturing. Wimborne also offers advisory services, which reduces the time and frequency of testing prior to compliance, ensuring an effective, timely route to market. The site’s EMC chambers, reverberation
chambers and indirect lightning equipment provide unrivaled capacity to accommodate the demands of any product qualification program.

From risk assessments to cleaning regimes, there are many key considerations to managing health and safety during COVID-19. On page 26, the experts at CHAS outline some of these considerations.

NEBOSH PARTNERS WITH HSE TO LAUNCH NEW RISK MANAGEMENT QUALIFICATION N
EBOSH has partnered with Great Britain’s regulator, the Health and Safety Executive, to launch an introductory qualification that provides
straightforward, practical health and safety risk management skills. The NEBOSH HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at
Work is rooted in a proportional approach to risk; it provides the fundamentals people need to build an effective approach to risk management in their workplace that focuses not only on the risk assessment itself, but on the practical actions needed to control and monitor those risks in order to protect people from harm. Suitable for any employee or team member in a low to medium risk
setting, successful learners will understand the principles of risk management, know how to identify and evaluate hazards, complete a risk assessment and be able to use simple tools to control risk. For employers they will have assurance that their employees are trained in the Health and Safety Executive’s best practice approach to health and safety risk management. Matt Powell-Howard, NEBOSH head of Learning and Partnerships, said: “Risk management is about taking practical steps to protect people from

real harm. It should never be a “back covering” exercise but something that can have a really positive impact on workplace health and safety. This qualification provides practical steps that anyone can take to identify, assess and control risks. We know that there are lots of demands on people’s time, that’s why we’ve really focused the content onto what really matters so that it can be completed in one day.” The NEBOSH HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at
Work can be studied through NEBOSH’s global network of accredited Learning Partners, offering options for both online and classroom learning. For more information visit:
