BHETA enables kickstart funding for smaller employer members

The British Home Enhancement Trade Association is

set to apply the

(BHETA) to

Government’s Kickstart Scheme as an ‘organisation representative’ on behalf of its smaller employer members, enabling them to access the scheme.

Kickstart offers

support to employers creating jobs for young people, but it is only open to individual applicants who can take on a minimum of 30 new employees. The Kickstart Scheme is designed to help employers create new six-month job placements for young people who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment. The job placements should support the participants to develop the skills and experience they need to find work after completing the scheme. Funding is available for 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance

contributions and

employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions. There is also £1,500 per job placement available for setup costs, support and training. BHETA’s Chief Operating

Officer, Will Jones commented: “I am impressed with the Kickstart scheme and I would encourage all employers to consider it. Many smaller organisations did not realise they were eligible due to the minimum threshold, but BHETA has removed that hurdle by acting as the organising representative bringing together lots of individual applications. We

believe this Government

initiative will benefit the industry and society as a whole.”

Leading UK stair part and mouldings manufacturer expands further

Cheshire Mouldings continues

to expand, investing a further £2 million to increase its UK production and distribution capabilities. The company, which is a firm supporter of UK manufacturing, will bolster its warehouse capacity, speed up production and streamline its processes whilst continuing to provide the superior support to its merchants and stockists that it has become renowned for.

Whilst 2020 has been one of the most challenging years for all industries, the family business has continued to grow; adapting quickly to the changes, its teams successfully implemented social distancing across its factory and warehouse facilities to carry on fulfilling orders and continue to support its customer network. In November 2020 a new 30,000 sq ft distribution centre will open at its Merseyside site, housing a state-of-the-art barcode picking and warehouse management system, designed to streamline and reduce order lead times. Followed by an 80,000 sq.ft. storage warehouse which will open in late 2021.

The company has also taken delivery of a brand-new automated moulding machine, a Powermat 1500 moulder from Weinig UK.

Local Derby business acquires intellectual property of Internet Gardener

ARB & Grounds, a garden machinery business in Derby has recently acquired the intellectual property of The Internet Gardener Ltd meaning they now own the website www.internet gardener.co.uk. The site had been running since 2006 by a family owned business before going into liquidation at the end of 2019. The online retailer used to sell garden furniture online from various retailers bringing in over six million in turnover in 2019. Nottingham based

entrepreneur Elliott Davidson, 25, who owns ARB & Grounds Equipment Ltd has already been making local headlines with his recent acquisition of Y Frame Discounts Ltd and is now working on this new venture. Elliott is also the founder and director

of Contrast; an eCommerce

digital marketing agency in Nottingham’s Creative Quarter. The young entrepreneur has

road-mapped plans to bring the site back up and running and also ensure he brings the revenue levels back in his two year business plan for Internet Gardener. Not only will Elliott be looking to build relationships with past suppliers, but also looking to expand the product range to include garden machinery and equipment. Davidson, comments: “I can’t wait to start building the site back up again. I know that other similar UK businesses are doing over 20 million in the sector so there is plenty of room to grow this business further. This was an opportunity I couldn’t miss and I have major plans for Internet Gardener. Being an owner of an eCommerce digital marketing agency and also another seven figure eCommerce business has its perks, as I am able to take all of these past learnings, both successes and failures to help maximise our chances of moving forward.”
