Bringing warmth to the bathroom isn’t the easiest of tasks

According to the experts at independent tile specialists Porcelain Superstore, adding textured tiles could be the solution you need to go from clinically cold to cosy chic. Unlike their brightly coloured or intricately patterned counterparts, textured

tiles are often viewed as a more simple tile, but that doesn’t mean their impact should be overlooked. By their very nature, textured tiles play with natural light, creating infinite tonal varieties across the surface and upping the warmth. Abbas Youssefi, Director at Porcelain Supestore, says: “Texture is a really

smart way of adding interest and personality in what can sometimes be quite a clinical space. Combined with luxe finishes such as mirror effect and marbling, we are seeing a boom in more distressed, tactile tiles. “Tile designers and manufacturers are adopting more advanced techniques

to really push the boundaries and we’re increasingly seeing more collections combining a mixture of textures.”

About Porcelain Superstore Passionate about porcelain, the brothers behind Porcelain Superstore scour Europe and beyond for their curated collections, which are handpicked from only the most respected tile factories. Visit www.porcelainsuperstore.co.uk to learn more.

16 DIY WEEK APRIL 2021 www.diyweek.net

handmade from natural clay and glazed in a huge variation of vibrant colours, creating flawed, irregular finishes which produce a myriad of alternating tones. Recently, zellige- style

ceramic tiles have tradition

hugely popular, with many of the leading manufacturers

become creating

collections that combine North African

with modern ceramic technology.

The Zellige collection consists of 100mm square tiles with irregular edges, glaze variations and life-like flawed surfaces. Available in a range of 12 vibrant colours – from the stunning green/blue Petrolio to pearlescent sage tones of Salvia, right through to the striking black Carbone – the glossy and tactile finish and visible variations in tone make them ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, sunrooms, conservatories and more. The strong colours can also make a deep impact in smaller spaces such as kitchen or cloakroom splashbacks, or a fireplace surround. Random installation creates a blend effect to make the colours vibrate

strongly and replicate the handmade look of a Moroccan Riad. The collection is part of Italian manufacturer Marazzi’s Crogiolo range – which translates from Italian to mean ‘crucible’ or ‘melting pot’, reflecting the tile’s exotic heritage. Ceramique Internationale also offers the Lume collection of 60 x 240cm zellige-style porcelain stoneware tiles, from the Croglio range. Director of Ceramique Internationale, Peter Vann, says: “Zellige-style tiles are bang on trend and have appeared in all the interior trend lists for this year. The stunning worn-out, non-uniform colour and surface variations of this collection reflect the light to create an amazing effect, and the size makes it extremely versatile in how and where it can be applied.” More information on the collection can be found at https://tilesandmosaics. co.uk/product/zellige-petrolio/
