The interior designers at Studio Dean have launched an original collection of luxury wallpapers called EVOLVED, which are inspired by their native Northumberland’s iconic forests and countryside.

Cathy Dean, Founder and CEO of The Studio Dean Edit by interior designer company Studio Dean has always championed making ‘forever’ interior choices, buying well and buying once to save waste. She says: “We don’t design to trends, in fact we try to avoid them and design for longevity. What you choose now should still look and feel great in a decade.” Ironically, this mindset is finally catching on and will be ‘trending’ this year with people looking for quality and choosing designs that truly resonate with them and make them feel good.
Faux fabric As seen in Woman & Home’s wallpaper trends 2024, the Hali and Kairi papers are based on chunky weave natural fabric such as jute, and are so realistic you have to touch them to believe they are
paper! They come in a range of nature-inspired colours that add warmth and texture to walls with a subtle, timeless elegance. “Fabric wall coverings are so chic right now, but also so expensive. The interior designers at Studio Dean have created a cost-effective alternative,” says Cathy. “It instantly elevates any space and makes it feel warm and welcoming.”
Stripes Stripes are back, and we have a natural twist on this trend that is perfect for those wanting to try out a subtle stripe - our Sylva paper in three neutral shades, £120 a roll.
Sustainability All papers are printed to order on FSC certified paper using water based ink to eliminate waste and pollution. Cathy Dean, founder of Studio Dean says “We love and are
inspired by trees and nature and want to replicate their beauty in people’s homes, while protecting the original source.” In response to the local Sycamore
Gap tree felling, 5% of profits from each sale of wallpaper are donated to the National Trust to support Northumberland National Park and the local community.
Local artistry
The team at Studio Dean couldn’t find the perfect, timeless papers for their future-proof renovation projects, so they designed their own, in-house and the papers are printed to order in Manchester. Cathy was born in Northumberland, and the area’s natural beauty has always strongly influenced her interior design. Cathy says: “My locally-based team and I have had a deep love and connection with the Northumberland forests all our lives.”

Dark and neutral EVOLVED’s colour palette has been described as ‘masculine’ due to its range of neutrals from light to deep and dark tones, which will be big in 2024 and beyond. There are no shades of grey in the collection and all neutrals are based in nature from stone taupes to raven blacks. Decorating with dark colours is the easiest way to bring a room to life, and grown-up shades of olive, navy and charcoal are quickly becoming this year’s go-to tones. Adding a dark wallpaper immediately makes a space feel cosy.
Biophilia
Several of the papers, Athalia, Sylva, Asteria and Xylo are becoming increasingly sought after during the recent ‘forestcore’ trend. The papers were designed using leaves, feathers, bark and other beautiful patterns found in the forests near Studio Dean’s HQ at Dissington Hall, a Northumberland stately home. The interior designers used their artistic skill and experience to turn them into timeless papers that they now use regularly in their high-end interior design projects.
