DOPAMINE DECOR AND THE TILES TO MOOD BOOST
If ever there was a time to talk about putting a spring in your step it’s now. With the new season equinox having just passed and blossom shots swiftly beginning to dominate on our socials, it’s only natural that we look to our homes to make sure every day starts with a mood boosting hit to get the day underway. Wondering how tiles fit into the spring glee convo? Over to Grazzie head of creative at MARLBOROUGH TILES to give you the download plus the tiles she turns to first for a dose of dopamine decor.
Interior design is of course an art to master and covers everything from how a home flows thanks to its layout and furniture arrangements, right through to its combination of texture, lighting, colour and sense of space. But Grazzie has good news: “You don’t necessarily need to fork out on an interior designer to create a home that feels good. Not everyone has the budget to bring somebody in to deal with their decor, so start small and harness the hues for your home’s colour scheme and you’ll soon see how colour has the power to majorly mould your mood.”
CERAMIQUE INTERNATIONALE TAKES NATURAL SLATE AS INSPIRATION FOR NEW COLLECTION
The varied tones and textures of natural slate are the inspiration behind Ceramique Internationale’s new tile collection, Era. These large format 600 x 1,200mm stone-effect porcelain tiles, by Italian producer Casalgrande Padana, have the subtle tactile quality of a sandblasted slate surface.
The Era collection is available in six earthy colours, each one tailored to appeal to UK interior design and colour trends, and with its own unique characteristics – warm grey Bruna; Bianca with pale grey cloud-like effects; Crema, featuring marble-effect white veining; versatile light grey Perla; minimalist Grigia with cool grey undertones; and dynamic dark grey Pepe. The tiles are designed with anti-slip technology and
wear-resistance, making them extremely functional and versatile as well as visually striking. They can be used alone or in a variety of combinations in bathrooms and kitchens, hallways and conservatories.

Colour-rich homes (and that doesn’t mean going for highlighter bright colours, in fact, the total opposite) can be the ultimate positivity punchers. According to colour psychology, green is linked to wellbeing, so it brings a relaxed energy to the home, it demands very little so fits into homes easily. Blue in its palest form helps to calm us, more intense blues aid concentration. Pink performs differently in the home depending on the shade too, paler pinks are soft and nurturing so work wonders in main bathrooms and bedrooms. While stronger blush shades can be really grounding.
It does all come back to personal choice though. Take yellow as an example – one of the ultimate sunshine shades but that can seriously divide opinion. Tile a kitchen with primrose metro tiles but if you’re not a yellow-lover, you’re never going to find that a feel-good decor move. So yes, lean into colour theory, but equally don’t be governed by it. Combine it with your personal preferences but more than anything before you reach for the beige, consider whether a dose of colour could dish out your daily dose of dopamine.

THE BAKED TILE COMPANY GOES BACK TO THE 1960S WITH GROOVY SANTANA
Retro homewares are back and bolder than ever, according to independent tile specialists The Baked Tile Company.
It comes as the company launches Groovy Santana – a striking porcelain wall and floor tile that boasts a 60s-inspired pattern in a rich ochre and grey. Lesley Taylor, Interior Designer and Founder of The Baked Tile Company, says: “A lot of properties in the UK were built in the 60s and 70s and what we are seeing is homeowners putting retro products back into the settings for which they were designed. Not only do they look amazing, but they cement the look and feel of the original architecture. “Groovy Santana is the perfect example of a retro-
inspired tile that works beautifully in a contemporary setting. And it’s just so much fun. Design comes in cycles and it’s wonderful to see the next generation really appreciate the beauty of this 60s and 70s-inspired style.” Groovy Santana is a
hardwearing porcelain tile that won’t absorb any stains making it perfect for bathrooms and other high- traffic areas of the home.

DRENCHED IN DELFT: A FRESH TAKE ON THE DESIGN CLASSIC
Delft is blooming in popularity this year, as a new generation of interior designers and discerning homemakers falls for its delicate designs and that characteristic blue and white palette. The Delft look has been beloved for centuries, but today’s fresh new take sees every available surface drenched in delicate, hand painted, vintage designs.
In a world of fast fashion and mass production, the provenance of the objects we surround ourselves with has become as important as their aesthetic and functional qualities. Founded in 1936, Marlborough Tiles is proud to be the UK’s oldest surviving maker of traditional handmade, hand painted Delft tiles. To this day, our artists use the same batch of Delft blue pigment procured by our female founders nearly 90 years ago. We are, to our knowledge, the only makers in the country still painting Delft using the traditional technique, whereby each stroke is painted by hand, ‘wet on wet’ into the tile’s raw glaze, before it is fired. This way, the fluidity of brushstroke that makes authentic Delft so instantly recognisable is preserved. Today, we are pleased to share with you a set of images of a blue shaker kitchen saturated with handmade, Classic Delft tiles, on an artisan tile body, painted by hand in Rosalind Blue – the original Delft pigment, named after our founder. We hope that these images will be useful to support your trend editorial for 2024.
