Gearing up for the Christmas period

It’s certainly been a hectic couple of weeks in the DIY Week office since the last issue went to press. And as we head into one of the busiest trading periods of the year for retailers, the suppliers are already gearing up for next year. There are plenty of new products being launched in most areas of the business, which is great to see. It bodes well for the upcoming DIY Week Awards that take place on 1 May next year at the Tower Hotel in London, as we’re hoping many of these exciting new developments will be entered. With Christmas fast approaching we have a great news story about GJ’s hardware store

in Alfreton, which has once again been running its Christmas decoration competition that pitches major suppliers against each other in a bid to build the best display from a range of their own products. These can lead to some very creative and inventive ideas, as you’ll see on page 6. Elsewhere in this issue we have a range review covering hardware and tools where we take a look at how EFG Housewares is supporting the high street during these often difficult and turbulent trading conditions, and find out how DK Tools is preparing to serve its customers in 2020. The Dulux Academy recently held its Ultimate Wallpapering Challenge that was very well

received once again and we have an in-depth report from it on page 18. Nicola Lewis of Mrs Lewis’ Decorating Company from Matlock was the winner of this, the third time the annual event has been run. The report forms part of our painting and decorating range review, which also includes a full preview of this year’s National Painting & Decorating Show that takes place later this month. It’s shaping up to be yet another busy industry event where there will no doubt be plenty of new products and ideas on show and hopefully even more items that may find their way onto the entry list of our 2020 DIY Week Awards. You can learn more about the awards and find out how to take part on the event’s website at www.diyweekawards.co.uk.
