DIY WEEK AWARDS

Our stellar judging panel boasted more than 200 years’ of industry experience between them

RETAILER SHORTLIST REVEALED

As the countdown for the 2018 event begins, we are delighted to finally reveal the shortlist of retail businesses in line for an accolade at this year’s DIY Week Awards

W

ith the initial attempt blighted by snow, judging for

the retailer

categories in the DIY Week Awards has finally

taken place. A total of 18 home improvement and garden retailers have been named as finalists across six categories, which you will find detailed over the next two pages. Judges convened this week at Toolbank’s new purpose-built

site in Wednesbury to review the entries, discuss their findings and settle on a shortlist. There a lot of really strong entries this year and some difficult decisions had to be made on the day – with a couple of results having to be put to a vote. Each of our judges brought

real value to the table and have a wealth of experience - in fact between them, our panel boasts a combined total of 201 years in the home improvement and garden sector.

With special thanks to our sponsors

Our judging panel this year comprised:

Mark Alexander, managing director, Benchmark Retail Services Ltd

Steve Akers, director of buying, British Independent Retailers Association (BIRA) Paul Bagnall, channel manager, Henkel Consumer Adhesives Simon Bicknell, marketing development director, Toolbank Paul Housego, retail consultant Colin Petty, industry consultant and former DIY Week publisher Nigel Wright, operations director, Stax Trade Centres Iain Wylie, chief executive, Garden Centre Association (GCA) The judging day was enjoyed by all and ran smoothly, thanks to our kind host, Toolbank. Marketing

development director Simon Bicknell said: “We were very happy to support the DIY Week Awards by hosting the judging day at our new state-of-the

art facility in

Wednesbury. I was also delighted to sit on the panel this year and thoroughly enjoyed the process. Congratulations to all of the worthy finalists and I look forward to seeing the winners collect their awards on the day.”

The overall winners in each category will be announced at the 2018 DIY Week Awards luncheon on Friday, May 11 at the Park Plaza Victoria in London, along with winners of the supplier categories- the finalists for which were announced in the March 9 issue but can also be found online at www.diyweekawards.co.uk.
