Energy efficient steam dispersal

Energy efficiency is one of the primary concerns for new adopters of humidity control. Rising energy prices mean specifiers and contractors have been especially keen to adopt lower energy units that don’t compromise on performance. The expanded focus on green technology and climate change has highlighted the importance of indoor environment control, not only for comfort but as a significant factor in personnel and process efficiency. Humidity Solutions managing director John Barker offers some insight into an efficient and innovative solution

T

he Neptronic Multi-Steam is a Steam Distribution System that combines efficiency and innovation through an optimised multi-

steam lance design. Both models in the series address a key loss vector in steam humidification – condensate. Precipitation of steam within humidification systems is typically siphoned off as waste. This ‘waste’ water carries a significant amount of thermal energy, having already reached its evaporation point early in the process. Having already reached evaporation point, this water is close to sterile, carrying only the impurities it makes contact with after condensing. The Multi- Steam series feeds that energy and sterile water back into the production cycle, allowing passive recycling without any additional user intervention or impacting useability, reducing energy and water waste.

The Multi-Steam SD features distributor channels evenly spaced across the length of the duct or air handler to maximise steam surface area and effective air mixing while lowering

design technology is ‘always on’ and shows its effectiveness under circumstances that have formerly challenged models in the industry, such during the start-up cycle and navigating changes in operational settings. The advanced model, the Multi-Steam HD,

improves on these features by insulating and double walling channels and lances, cutting thermal energy loss significantly. The HD model uses fungal and bacterial-resistant Armacell UT/ Isoflex foam, also rated for flame spread and smoke development. The foam is encapsulated between the walls of the steam distributor, where the stainless-steel shell can protect from wear and tear while preventing heat loss from the steam distributor into the duct airflow. From here condensate can be re-heated for

absorption distances. As each unit is custom- made for the duct or AHU users can rest assured of a perfect fit. Brass steam injector nozzles are installed in each channel at staggered intervals, preventing any face-to-face steam injections from the opposite side of the lance. Both models come with X-Stream technology, high efficiency insulated steam injector eyelets which feature an internal slope which prevent condensed droplets from entering the airflow and causing rust or corrosion along the duct or to surrounding equipment. Instead, this condensate is siphoned back into the channel. This passive

significantly less energy than new water, re- vapourised and fed back into the system using an optional Pressurised Condensate Return (PCR). By adding this component to recycle condensate, users can remove the gravity drain and waste siphoning entirely, removing two common points for system failure and leakage. The PCR can also be installed outside the duct for easy access and is compatible with BACnet and Modbus allowing live monitoring.

These models, with a PCR, reduce energy

wastage by almost 85% and typically see full ROI in approximately 15 months. Suitable for medium to high-capacity applications, these systems can support projects between 2-750 kg/h and can scale upwards. At Humidity Solutions we are the only UK distributor for Neptronic applications. With award- winning customer service, free site visits and a fleet of engineers covering mainland UK, we hold a number of these models and more in stock.
