Other

• We were the first to create a ground source heat pump small and quiet enough to be installed into flats and apartments in the Kensa Shoebox range. • We were first to develop the largest single phase ground source heat pump available, perfect for large UK properties, the 24kW Twin. • Kensa now has the largest number of ENA ‘Connect & Notify’ approved ground source heat pump products in the UK enabling simpler, quicker and lower cost ground source heat pump installations.

HEAT PUMP GUIDE

CaseStudy

Howard Smith, owner of Smith Builders Ltd, installed a Kensa ground source heat pump into his self-sustainable self-build to benefit his pocket and the environment, and provide first-hand heat pump experience and expertise to his clientele. The plot was off the gas grid, so Howard knew his options for traditional fuels were limited. Reluctant to use oil, as he considered it “dirty and expensive”, Howard looked into a variety of renewable options; ground source offered the perfect solution.

The paddock at the front of the property

was ideal for the installation of slinkies to complement Kensa’s 13kW Evo ground source heat pump. With Kensa’s advice and support, Howard used his own equipment to dig the

trenches for the slinkies. Like all MCS-accredited self-build installations

featuring Kensa ground source heat pumps, the project was eligible for the Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). As with the majority of Kensa’s range, the

13kW Evo is Connect & Notify-approved on the Energy Network Association’s heat pump database, which saved time and quickened the RHI application process. Combining a well-designed slinky ground array with a low temperature heating distribution system

and high levels of building thermal efficiency, alongside the highly-efficient Kensa Evo ground source heat pump, ensured Howard an excellent MCS SCoP rating for lucrative RHI returns for seven years, plus ultra-low running costs. Howard explained: “Anyone considering a

ground source heat pump should look into the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme and work out the financial case. Yes, the initial pay-out is more than traditional fossil fuel systems, and some other renewable technologies, but the rate of return is also higher.” Howard continues to build on his Kensa

ground source heat pump experience and is now installing ground source heat pumps for many happy customers.
