The chimney and flue sector is experiencing a period of significant change with regulatory reform ushering in a new era for manufacturers and installers. Dennis Milligan, president of the British Flue and Chimney Manufacturers Association (BFCMA), discusses some of the key differences.

Ecodesign changes


The long anticipated Ecodesign changes for wood burning and solid fuel stoves have arrived and all new appliances must now comply with the new efficiency and emission limits enshrined in Defra’s Environment Bill. There is always a proviso and that is appliances


placed on the market for sale before 1st January 2022 can still be sold. The Ecodesign limit for particulate matter (PM) is 55% lower than Defra Exempt stoves and many Ecodesign stoves produce significantly fewer emissions than the Ecodesign limit. There will
