Big freeze New Year?
D
ramatic weather events have taken place in all parts of the world in recent times raising alarm about climate
change and global warming. It seems the trend is not going away either, with scientists now warning that this winter could be the coldest in the UK for a decade. Researchers from the Department of Space and Climate Physics at University College London have suggested January and February temperatures could be even lower than those experienced during 2018’s Beast from the East. Moreover, predictions are based on carefully measured data on weather patterns and behaviours lending them plenty of credibility. This could have serious implications for
homeowners and businessess as they go about their daily routines. It also means the industry needs to be prepared. Breakdowns of heating equipment, or in some cases power outages, could have consequences for all involved. In an exclusive Burning Issue feature on pg 8, Carrier Rental Systems has some advice on how to cope in an emergency and suggestions on temporary heating solutions. So, brace for the cold! Not the brightest New
Year message, but best to be prepared. • Other features in our January issue include Humidification, Sustainability, Pipes & valves, and Well-being in buildings.

NEW CONNECTED SOLUTION FOR FUEL POVERTY V
aillant has developed a new social housing gateway that allows social landlords to remotely monitor boilers within their housing stock to manage
energy costs, reduce downtime and accelerate repairs. Compatible with ecoFIT/ecoTEC sustain and ecoTEC pro boilers, the gateway uses the Global System for Mobile communication (GSM). GSM is used by all major mobile phone networks in the UK and is regarded as the most secure communication standard, providing reassurance that data will be safe.
Furthermore, using GSM eliminates the need to use a tenant’s Wi-Fi connection. The system detects underperforming boilers that are using too much energy, whilst remote monitoring allows landlords to monitor energy consumption and set optimum performance and comfort settings for their tenants.
NON-COMBUSTIBLE INSULATED HVAC PIPE SUPPORTS S
tone wool insulation specialist, Rockwool,
has introduced Rocklap Pipe Supports - a robust, non-combustible pipe support solution designed to minimise thermal bridging from HVAC pipe suspension systems. Rocklap Pipe Supports are manufactured with stone wool, a material that does not burn or contribute to a fire load. When combined with Rocklap H&V Pipe Sections, they create a ‘comprehensive, efficient and fire safe solution’ for HVAC pipework with significant thermal and acoustic benefits.
