Industry News CON-JUL21-EMERSON QUARTER:CON-JUL21-EMERSON QUARTER 18 Editor’s Comment

Welcome to the May/June joint issue of Converter magazine. The last two months have been busy, I celebrated turning the grand old age of 24 and we’ve had what feels like either high force gale winds or tropical sun here in the UK, it can’t quite make its mind up. The World cup has begun and it’s been great to see countless promotional packaging and look at how companies have taken diff erent approaches. I’ll of course be rooting for England to bring it home after 60 years of hurt but I’ve also got my eyes on Argentina and Germany who could secure me a sweepstake win. This issue is bumper packed with a number of features, our next issue will also be a joint edition, so we are still on the lookout for some great articles to include, if you are interested please reach out via the emails on page 3. I hope you enjoy this issue, whether in the middle of a tropical storm or tanning yourself in the glorious sunshine.

The manufacturers of recycled paper, corrugated board and fl exible packaging, as well as a provider of comprehensive waste management and environmental services, welcomed the Spanish Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Emma Aparici, to its paper mill near Manchester on 26 May. The visit highlighted Saica’s long-term commitment to the UK, where the Group has maintained a strong industrial and commercial presence for almost two decades, supporting local employment, manufacturing and the transition to a circular economy. Ms Aparici, who took up her role as

operating within the UK. Her visit to Saica is part of this programme and refl ects the importance of Spanish investment in the UK’s industrial base. During the visit, the Ambassador was accompanied by the Consul General of Spain in Manchester, Alejandro Polanco Mata. They were welcomed by senior members of the Saica team including, Susana Alejandro, chairman and chief executive offi cer, Pilar Franca, sustainable development & people global director, and Darren Johnston, Saica Paper UK plant manager. The Ambassador also had the opportunity to witness fi rst-hand the paper

production process, gaining insight into how recovered, sustainable paper and cardboard is transformed into high-quality recycled paper for packaging applications, whilst effi ciently reusing water and energy.
