Luxury Packaging Holdsworth chocolates are leading the

way with sustainable luxury packaging Robinson Packaging has been working with Holdsworth to produce packaging to showcase the iconic brand’s confectionary.

H

oldsworth, producer of luxury chocolates, has been a long standing customer of Robinson’s for nearly a decade. Over the years the company has enjoyed exponential organic growth, with the designer packaging evolving every step of the way. Foil embossed rigid boxes and lids continue to be the packaging of choice for its flagship collections and are on proud display at some of the UK’s most well-known high- street and online retailers including Selfridges, John Lewis, Amazon and Moonpig. But what makes Holdsworth special? Well, it’s a brand that champions a local, sustainable, UK supply chain, making it a flagship brand that is undeniably the best of British.

RECYCLED PACKAGING FOR THE WIN All of Holdsworth’s packaging is made from recycled fibres and is fully recyclable; helping to close the loop and create a circular economy.

“Sustainable packaging is a collective

goal for both Robinson and Holdsworth. Our brand was developed on a passion for creating beautiful hand-crafted chocolates, using the finest of everything, that’s why it is so important that we invest in high-quality sustainable packaging that reflects our values too,” says David Sharples, managing director at Holdsworth Chocolates.

Recycled paperboard offers so many benefits, as Dr Helene Roberts, chief executive officer at Robinson, explains: “It still has the same great quality as virgin material and has exceptional environmental credentials.” To further enhance sustainability credentials, it was important for Holdsworth to find a local packaging supplier to help reduce their carbon footprint. With Robinson’s manufacturing site being located centrally in Chesterfield, it was the perfect solution for efficient and easy shipping.

Robinson has seen more brands over the last year move their supply chain locally to meet environmental and supply chain pressures. The paperboard market is expected

to grow at a year-on-year rate of 3.5% creating a significant opportunity for UK suppliers. Dr Roberts commented: “Brands are demanding for more locally sourced packaging; in parallel consumer expectations are rising as they become more environmentally aware. We are seeing a reduction in paperboard being procured from Asia and a higher demand from the UK market. This will have a significant benefit to reduce environmental impact whilst supporting UK businesses and making the supply chain stronger and more flexible.”

HIGH-END APPEAL WITH GOLD FOILING One of the ways to enhance packaging is through the use of foiling. Holdsworth’s iconic logo and packaging is well known for the striking gold effect that can be found across their chocolate box range. What’s fantastic about foiling is that it adds a luxury high-end appeal whilst still being recyclable. “Whether it’s the smallest of gift bags or one of our collection boxes, it’s important that the packaging is unmistakably Holdsworth and represents all that our customers expect of our brand: quality, elegance, sustainability and luxury,” says Mr Sharples.

One of the ways in which they have also made the boxes sustainable is by using tactile varnishes, instead of plastic film laminates on the box exteriors. This helps to reduce plastic and is a great alternative to protect the box.

“The breadth of the Holdsworth chocolate range of products means we have a requirement for a wide spectrum of packaging solutions, whether that be rigid boxes and lids, folding cartons or our unique clam shell gift boxes. With Robinson, we have found a partner in whom we can place an absolute trust; not only in reacting quickly to demand but also in helping us to create beautiful, sustainable packaging that perfectly complements our core values as a British business of excellence and quality,” says Mr Sharples.
