Reel & Roll Handling
The benefits of improved ergonomics and eff iciency of reel handling equipment
By Teresa Winter, director, Packline
• Reel transfer stands and dollies simplify transport between storage and production lines
• Quick-release attachments make changeovers fast and effi cient
• Hygienic stainless-steel construction ensures compliance in cleanroom and food-grade environments
H
andling heavy reels and rolls is a common challenge in manufacturing, packaging and processing environments. Without the right
equipment, manual handling can lead to strain, ineffi ciency and potential safety risks.
ERGONOMIC HANDLING: REDUCING STRAIN AND INJURY RISK Reels of fi lm, paper, foil, or cable can weigh anywhere from a few kilograms to several hundred. Repeated lifting or positioning by hand increases the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.
Stainless steel reel lifters are designed to remove this risk by providing powered lifting, rotation and positioning, allowing operators to handle reels safely and comfortably with minimal physical eff ort. Ergonomic features include:
• Adjustable lift heights to suit various machinery and storage confi gurations
• Precision controls for smooth, controlled movement
• Compact stainless-steel design for easy manoeuvrability in confi ned spaces
• Interchangeable lifting attachments, such as mandrels, clamps and core grippers
FUNCTIONAL HANDLING: EFFICIENCY MEETS SAFETY
Beyond ergonomics, functionality needs to be at the heart of every design. Reel lifting and transfer systems streamline workfl ow, reduce downtime and enhance productivity. For example:
• Powered reel lifters enable easy loading onto packaging machines or unwind stands
Each piece of equipment is engineered for long-term reliability and low maintenance, ensuring consistent performance and safety compliance.
CUSTOM-BUILT SOLUTIONS FOR EVERY INDUSTRY
Every production line is diff erent, that’s why our engineering team off ers custom reel handling solutions tailored to each specifi c process, reel size and working environment. Whether you need to lift reels vertically, rotate them into position, or transfer them across the factory fl oor, a bespoke ergonomic handling solution will benefi t your operational needs.
