Reel & Roll Handling

DM1 Rewinder: Inspection and Sanitation for Optimizing Reel Production.

By Jordi Prat – Slicing Technical Sales Director at Comexi

I

n the world of flexible packaging manufacturing, efficiency and quality are paramount. Every reel production process for flexible packaging faces challenges such as failures, defects, and errors that can result in material being discarded in later stages. However, an innovative solution called Doctor Machine (DM1) is changing the game, significantly improving efficiency and reducing costs.

The DM1 is a reel rewinder designed specifically to address the inherent issues in flexible packaging production. This machine meticulously inspects the material from both sides, detecting and allowing the removal of errors and defects present in the reel. This has a doubly positive impact on production.

REWINDING AND INSPECTION The basic concept of the DM1 is that the reel coming out of the printing process is placed in the machine. It rewinds in one direction, and the

machine detects all defects with a 100% inspection system. Without the need to remove the reel, it rewinds in the opposite direction, stopping at the exact point of detected defects so that the operator can rectify them and make a register splice. As a result, the reel is perfect for the next process, whether it’s lamination or slicing.

FEWER INTERRUPTIONS IN WORK AND LESS MATERIAL WASTE

The advantages of the DM1 are manifold. First, it significantly reduces interruptions in production processes. Instead of completing the entire production and then remove defective meters, which leads to costly production line stoppages and additional costs for cleaning and restarts, the DM1 eliminates flaws immediately, allowing production to continue uninterrupted. Second, the machine prevents the overuse of materials, adhesives, and coatings by eliminating

defects before they proceed to subsequent processes. This not only reduces production costs but also ensures that the reels are of the highest quality before entering the final slicing process. In addition to these primary functions, the DM1 offers other advantages. It can join reels to create larger ones, clean the trim of incoming reels in lamination or slicing, and prevent the telescoping effect, which reduces the production speed of machines in subsequent processes.

In summary, the DM1 is an invaluable tool in reels production for flexible packaging. It enables more efficient production, reduces material waste, and ensures the quality of the final product. With DM1, curing processes can operate at maximum speed, resulting in a significant increase in productivity and cost reduction. This machine represents a crucial advancement in the flexible packaging industry and is becoming an indispensable investment for manufacturers worldwide.
