Digital Printing Scaling what matters: Meridian 3’s shift to

personalised production with Roland DG How Roland DG UV flatbed technology enabled Meridian 3 to scale personalised products, streamline production and meet rising customer demand

I

n today’s personalisation-driven economy, customer expectations are changing fast. In a crowded retail landscape, buyers are increasingly drawn to products that feel unique, meaningful and made just for them. Expectations around quality, variety, customisation and speed of delivery continue to rise, placing growing pressure on print providers to deliver short-run, highly personalised products, often at peak seasonal demand and with tight turnaround times. For print businesses, growth now depends on

fl exibility, effi ciency and creative capability. This was exactly the challenge Meridian 3 faced as it looked to evolve its operations and unlock new opportunities.

RESPONDING TO A CHANGING MARKET Meridian 3 began as a digital print provider off ering traditional products such as business cards and glossy brochures. But as customer demand shifted, the business recognised the opportunity to expand beyond conventional print into personalised product creation.

That transformation accelerated with the investment in the Roland DG EU-1000MF UV LED fl atbed printer. With this addition, Meridian 3 signifi cantly broadened its off ering, introducing customised items including jigsaw puzzles, notebooks, key-rings, medals and badges – products designed to meet the growing demand for personalisation across both B2B and consumer markets.

FROM TRADITIONAL PRINT TO PERSONALISED PRODUCTION Meridian 3’s move into personalised products began in 2021 with a one-off request for a custom jigsaw puzzle. What started as an experiment quickly revealed a promising new revenue stream. To scale this opportunity, Meridian 3 carefully evaluated multiple technology partners. Ultimately, they chose Roland DG, a brand they already trusted for reliability and long-term support. For Meridian 3, dependable equipment was non-negotiable, particularly during peak trading periods when even minimal downtime could have a serious impact on the business.

The EU-1000MF UV LED fl atbed printer was selected specifi cally to support the rapid growth of Meridian 3’s personalised jigsaw puzzle off ering, while also opening the door to a wider range of custom products. Its performance during the holiday gifting season proved critical, enabling Meridian 3 to meet spikes in demand without overworking staff or compromising on quality. What began as a niche product quickly became a seasonal bestseller.

STREAMLINING WORKFLOWS AND INCREASING OUTPUT

The impact of the EU-1000MF was immediate. By enabling direct-to-substrate printing on materials such as wood, acrylic, aluminium and other rigid substrates, Meridian 3 was able to eliminate extra production steps and signifi cantly reduce turnaround times.

The ability to print multiple items simultaneously increased output capacity while expanding the range of products the business could off er. At the same time, the printer’s high-density, low-cost E-US inks allowed Meridian 3 to achieve premium fi nishes, layered eff ects and a wider variety of textures – unlocking new creative possibilities and higher- value product lines.

Importantly, the EU-1000MF also eased pressure on Meridian 3’s existing equipment, allowing other machines to focus on core B2B work. This improved operational balance made it possible to scale consumer-facing off erings without adding strain to the business.

A PARTNERSHIP BEYOND INSTALLATION The value of the investment extended well beyond the hardware itself. After Service Off set Supplies worked with Meridian 3 to select the printer, it was installed shortly after the team at Meridian 3 relocated to a new facility, presenting workfl ow challenges that required fl exibility and collaboration. When it became clear that the most effi cient setup involved relocating the printer, Roland DG’s support team ensured the transition was seamless. For Meridian 3’s managing director, Barry Smith, this level of aftercare stood out: “The Roland DG team have been fantastic. The team came down and moved the printer for us, gave us plenty of training and helped with colour control and quality. They’ve been really good to us.”

EXPANDING TOGETHER WITH ROLAND DG As hyper-customisation continues to shape the print industry, Meridian 3 is well positioned to grow without compromising on quality or service. Central to this is a technology partner that not only meets today’s needs but supports long-term ambition. “Personalisation is what our customers are asking for and this technology allows us to deliver it at scale – quickly, consistently and to a high standard”, Barry adds.

More than a production upgrade, the Roland DG EU-1000MF UV LED fl atbed printer has given Meridian 3 the agility to experiment, diversify and plan for the future. The business continues to expand its personalised product range – adding new items such as keychains, notebooks, seasonal decorations and further developing its bestselling jigsaw puzzles.
