City gardening with Bio Green The Super Dome Polytunnel from Bio Green is said to extend the average growing season by as much as two months, as it offers protection against frost and strong sun as well as garden pests.
It has been designed to both help plants grow, but also to protect them from the elements. The roof has shading material sewn into it so that seedlings are protected against the sun and heat. With two side openings to allow ventilation, the polytunnel is easy access for watering plants and crops. The space saving design of Bio Green’s
Maxitom Plant Tower is a way of maximising your harvest, enabling gardeners to grow up to four plants for every metre making it particularly ideal where space is at a premium. It features a sturdy built in structure and a two-litre water reservoir. This is a companion for fruit and veg, giving them the support, they need to grow tall without the fear of vines snapping.
Durtsons boldy grows, like no one has grown before
By simply making a one-off change to the over-printing of the sacks into which Durstons compost is packaged, the bags are 100 per cent recyclable. “It was such a simple change,” says company spokesman, Dan Durston. “Durstons then went viral in the trade press with a plea to other businesses to follow suit, and the campaign fast started to gather momentum. And, whilst this may be classed as only ‘one small step for retail’ continues, Durston. “If we all pull together and do our bit, it has surely got to be, ‘one giant leap for the environment.”
Compost range receives a ‘best in test’ performance rating
FBord na Móna’s new peat-free Happy Compost is now available for order and will be available in garden centres from January 2020. Happy Compost received a ‘best in test’ performance against major competitors in trials conducted at University College of Dublin. In some cases, the peat-free products, which include bark, green compost, wood fibre and coir, outperformed compost products including peat. It was also discovered in blind taste tests that tomatoes growing in peat-free compost tasted better than those grown in peat-based compost.
Visitors to Glee received a first look at the six new peat-free products, and had the opportunity to discuss Bord na Móna’s sustainability credentials.

New products galore for Treadstone at Glee 2019
Making the most of extra space afforded by a larger stand at Glee this year, Wrexham-based Treadstone products used the show to demonstrate a host of new product launches.
The company showcased new additions across all three brands: ClipGlove, Peter Rabbit and ‘The Good Life’.
Fresh from a double win at the GIMA awards, ClipGlove sees two new promotional glove concepts added to the range, alongside a space-efficient backwall merchandising unit. ClipGlove gets its name from the addition of an aluminium Carabiner clip, which keeps glove pairs together when being stored away so that they do not get lost.
Treadstone’s Peter Rabbit themed outdoor adventures range for children has been boosted with the addition of a new collection of garden clogs in both boys’ and girls’ styles. This range is based on the TV series, which appears daily on Cbeebies.
Treadstone Products also launched new products in its ‘The Good Life’ range. The new Recycled Pot Range is 100 per cent recycled and also 100 per cent recyclable, thus reducing environmental impact and plastic waste. The heavy-duty pots are made in Italy and feature a textured surface and on-trend mocha colour reminiscent of natural clay.
