who did you see at glee? Bradford garden centre's half term charity planting
event raised almost £300 The team at a Bradford garden centre is celebrating after its half term bulb planting event, Little Daffodils, raised £289 for charity. Tong Garden Centre teamed up with Taylors Bulbs to host the family friendly daffodil planting sessions to raise money for the horticultural charity, Greenfingers that creates gardens in hospices for children with life limiting illnesses.
Tong's Head of Marketing, Jo Dales was overwhelmed with the success of the pop-up planting sessions: "We love to encourage children to enjoy growing and gardening and it was fabulous to see over 250 children and their families planting the daffodil bulbs. We're looking forward to seeing pictures of their blooms in spring."
A spokesman from Taylors Bulbs said that, although the bulb planting was intended to be a one-off event to celebrate their centenary year, it was so successful that they are looking at the possibility of making it an annual event.
Tong Garden Centre was one of 150 garden centres nationwide who supported the fundraising initiative.

The firefly helps keep small greenhouses frost free Firefly £29.99
We’re Bio Green – and we’re on a mission At Bio Green we share the hobby gardener’s appreciation of and love for the garden and everything in it – however tiny the space. In every season, we’re here to help gardeners create ideal growing conditions and nurture plants, whether the garden in question is a window box, a tiny balcony, a courtyard or an expansive plot.
Sub-zero temperatures are the traditional enemy of delicate greenhouse plants – but now there’s a cost-conscious and environmentally friendly way to keep Jack Frost at bay. The Firefly, from the gardening experts at Bio Green, is a decorative frost guard made from terracotta. Its heat source is an eco-friendly candle – made from biomass not paraffin - which burns for up to 48 hours and produces enough heat to keep a small greenhouse or cold frame above freezing.
The Firefly both saves energy costs and makes an attractive addition to a greenhouse. Bio Green’s Matt Evans said: “Keeping frost at

bay is a perennial issue for gardeners. In 2010 the UK experienced an astonishing 90 days below freezing. Whilst we can’t predict what the winter will bring, it makes sense to be prepared and this pretty and affordable frost guard really does the trick.”
The Firefly’s mushroom-shaped lid stores heat from the candle so that scented oils, when poured into its integral glazed bowl, can be heated by the candle below.
The Firefly weighs just 2KG and can also be used in any room in the house to burn essential oils or in the garden as a patio or table heater using citronella to keep the bugs away
