contents Summer is on its way
As you may have noticed, this issue is a bit weightier than normal, and I’m pleased to be able to offer you a whole host of topics that will hopefully fill you with inspiration and ideas for your business. With the Chelsea Flower Show a distant but beautiful dream, huge congratulations are in order to Hillier for becoming the most successful exhibitor in Chelsea history with its 74th consecutive gold medal at the show – truly a fantastic achievement! But, I was particularly impressed by initiatives like the ‘Helping Children Grow’ exhibit, which reminds us how important it is to inspire and involve our next generation of horticulturists, and celebrate the beauty of growing your own plants and produce. Having started my first vegetable patch a couple of months ago, let me tell you my onions and carrots are my genuine pride and joy. There really are a huge number of people getting to grips with the benefits of plants and who want a more sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle - groups like millennials are helping the houseplant trend thrive, and in this issue a fantastic piece from Internet Gardener shows us the top plants trending on social media, a tool that presents huge opportunities if used correctly, which I’m sure some of you are. June prepares us for glorious sunshine, and that too means getting the garden prepped for

summer and this gives garden centres an abundance of sale points from tools to watering systems, seeds to pest control, and not to mention BBQ and outdoor furniture. Having hosted my first BBQ in my house just last week, I can say it will be the first of many, just as long as my guests are happy to keep it strictly vegetarian that is…..just joking, I can hear your groans from here!
